I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Thanks @Ronmar, I think I'll order one of those flasher modules to have just in case. I'll only have ~3 days to work on the truck in Illinois before heading north so I'm trying to get everything I'll need before flying down.

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Small world, I bought it from Green Valley just south of Peoria. Not sure, the turn signals/hazards didn't work when I inspected the truck. I didn't have time to fully troubleshoot the cause at the time, but I noticed that the hazard relay wasn't original, so I'm hoping it is a simple relay...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Southcentral/Anchorage, give me a shout when you head up this way if you want to meet up or need some Alaska info. There are a decent number of FMTVs running around up here, a couple of my coworkers have 6x6s and helped influence my decision to pull the trigger on mine.

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Yes that is definitely the plan, I'm looking forward to the fuel savings - the Ecohubs should nearly pay for themselves on the trip home!

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Nice looking truck! I wish mine wasn't repainted black but having a solid truck was much more important than the color. Where did you find your spare air compressor head, all I've been able to find are complete compressors? The suspension seat bases I ordered are only 4.75" high at full...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Thanks for the info, good to know the 1/2" gun is adequate for the lugs. The 3 piece run flats are from forum member MAdams, he only had 2 to sell so they're going on the steer axle. They are getting hard to find at non-scalper prices. Is this the correct blinker module? If so I'll order one...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Thanks, I went with the 14.00s mainly because they were the best/newest tires that I could find at a "reasonable" price at the time I needed to place the order. I tried several places for 395s including Feltz (great guys!), but all I could find were surplus takeoffs that were either older than...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Hi All, I've been considering a MV for many years now, I originally joined this forum way back in 2011 when I nearly bought a surplus M35A3 at auction. Back in March I finally pulled the trigger on a cherry 2008 M1079A1R in Illinois with plans to drive it home to Alaska in June. I've started...

I'm looking for 5 of the composite Hutchinson 3-piece run flats for 20" FMTV wheels pictured below. Shipping would be to Illinois where my truck is currently located.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

A couple heavy boxes arrived in the mail today! Has anyone run Ecohubs with 14.00R20 tires and stock 3.90 gearing? Would that be too tall for the engine to cruise in the happy zone of the powerband at ~60 mph?

School me on Cat ET kits

Thanks for all the info and advice! I'd love to have one of the full featured SWICE kits, but I think that will have to wait a bit. There's not much room left in the budget at the moment after Ecohubs, new tires, and tools are accounted for. I'll probably start with the Dearborn adapter + Cat...

School me on Cat ET kits

Thanks for the info everyone. @GeneralDisorder, that kit sounds pretty skookum, it includes the latest manuals for the A1R trucks and everything required for the wireless connection to the truck? How user friendly is the diagnostics interface?

School me on Cat ET kits

I'm looking to get Cat ET so that I can run diagnostics on my truck's C7 and adjust the speedometer calibration after I install Ecohubs. I see that there are multiple Cat ET kits for sale that come with the software, communication adapter, and various cables that can run anywhere from ~$150 up...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

Thanks GeneralDisorder, that will theoretically save ~200 to 300 gallons of diesel just on the trip home, they'll pay for themselves in no time.
