Greg,

I have listed the manual numbers here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?36147-Gen-Set-CE-106-AC-WK-9. I would google to find them - I haven't seen any of them pop up in over a year. I had to bring one in from Denmark (good people). I have the -10, -20, -35 and -35P if you have any questions. Some excerpts have been posted here. I also have a friend who has one in PA.

Three units? That will be fun times three. Do any of your units have the inner battery tray and battery cover with the heating element? I would love :drool:to see some pics so that I can make copies. That is that last thing I need to complete my unit. The most tricky thing to repair is the winterization heater. Make sure that sucker is checked out before you fire it up or you'll need a fire extinuisher. Also check out your VR before you start the unit as those as very hard to find (if you fry it). Two common problems: magneto and brushes. Both are super easy to fix.

Please post pictures!

I put mine on wheels over the winter and will post my "ultimate" offgrid setup.

To fix or nix

None of the units have batt boxs all hard wired with the jumper cables. I was a heavy body man for 20 years roll overs, that type of thing, then opened a computer store now a realtor. So i got the bug to restore somthing and i found the three units. well after i looked them over and found out they suck 1 1/2 gallons of fuel an hour i am thinking it over . As i have a few listers also that do 1/2 the fuel per hour. I tryed to turn over all 3 one is fine two has a slaping soung from the meg and three the starter would not engage took it apart and it was rusted up but a good cleaning fixed that only to reinstall it and found out the 4 cyl will not turn over. do i reallly want to start this. i have uploaded a few quick pics.Photos_5.jpgPhotos_9.jpgunit1.jpgunit1side.jpgunit2.jpgunit2 side.jpgunit3.jpgunit3 side.jpgunit2 side.jpg

AL Your restore looks outstanding: can you post a few current pics. Sadly I think I am going to part out 2 units and keep one for parts and use the gen head on one of my listers. I must say the units are made to last and have extras galore single and three phase in the same unit among other things. In the one unit the starter was rusted to the point I would not have tried to fix a newer one . I just cleaned that puppy up with emery cloth and a little WD 40 it took right off after I pet it back together.

Here are some latest pics with the genny mounted on wheels. I'll post pics of the trailer rebuild under that forum so look for it there (later).

Oh and note I'll have to fabricate a latch for all the genny doors. They obviously won't open with the cover on the bows. I'm also trying to dig up some genny cord to build an umbilical to plug in the pole drop. As always, a project in progress.

Post 2 has a good pic. Here is another that shows the back side without the sensors.

Here are two with the sensors.

The previous post doesn't make too much sense, not sure what you're asking.

Thank you Allen! Congrats on a beautiful job.
For the HOL_GAR CE-106 I need clear pictures as to how the air filter is mounted on the unit. My cousin in Italy is restoring one of these that he purchased without an air filter. He subsequently bought a used filter and needs to know how it mounts. Probably has bracket(s) missing. The filter is the oil type.
Thank you.

Geeze, sorry, I read it as oil filter. I'll take some pics of the air filter tonight and post them. Anyway, sorry for my inability to read.

Be sure and recondition the tabs that hold the oil cup (7 oz) in place. I didn't and made one heck of a mess.

Hello Allen! You were a big help before and I'm sure with all your knowledge will come through again.
My cousin in Italy is rebuilding a HOL-GAR - CE-106-AC-W/K9 generator. He has this problem: On the front panel there supposed to be( from the pictures) what appears to be a choke cable labeled "primer". He does not have anything in that spot but the hole. Choke cable he can get but has no idea how and where this cable mounts.
In your arsenal of pictures, do you have pictures of how and where this cable mounts. Detail pictures will be of great help.
We follow your great work with much admiration. Hope you can help.
Thank you much in advance.
Regards, Vinny

Sorry for the delayed reply.

There is no cable in the primer hole. It is a hand primer pump as shown in this picture (red arrow).

It has a locking ring (red arrow in next picture) that you must pull out to use the primer. It prevents unintended priming.

20150119_092948SS.jpg

This next picture shows the locking ring released and the primer out sucking gas in to the pump. It gets pushed in and out to transfer fuel to nozzles on the intake manifold of the engine.

This next picture shows where all the various supply fuel lines go. If the text is too small, PM me your email and I will send you hi-res pictures.

This picture shows the fuel line coming from the primer pump, the location of the nozzles, etc.

Note that I think this is a Military Standard (MS) primer pump kit. It looks to be exactly like the one on my M38A1 (1955). I've seen these kits listed on eBay. The army jeep folks in the US also used to sell complete kits - I don't know of availability now. Here is a picture of the kit I obtained off the internet.

If my genny has been sitting for more than a few months, the primer will allow me to start it right up without having to crank on the starter forever. This is good because parts for the starter are very, very hard to find and very, very expensive.

Please let me know if you need any more pictures or have other questions.

Can you please post some pics of the genny that is being restored?
