    Front differential breather removal

Squibbly, I would caution you on this approach. Back in the day GM often used a fitting that was pressed in and only featured a machined barb as a means of retention in the housing that it was pressed into. Your breather has obviously been snapped off. The round base that is left is...

My son purchased one of these while the discount was active. It is a very nice piece. We are waiting for warmer weather to install it.

    M1009 rear axle lawsuit

Let's all keep in mind that just about all salisbury design semi-float rear axles produced by GM or their suppliers still employ the use of the C-clip as a means to retain the axle assembly in the rear axle. Furthermore, if someone orders a locking rear differential (option code RPO G80) today...

    84 M1009 Rear Diff Issues

Look up Inline Tube on the net. They are based in Michigan and offer CNC pre-bent brake lines for many vehicle including the M1009/K5 Blazer in both steel and stainless steel. This is the route I went on my son's truck and it worked out great and it was far from cost prohibitive. They even go...

    M1008 - wrong thermostat housing?

The original upper radiator hose clamp at the t/stat housing will have a stainless steel deflector/guard that is part of the clamp assembly. This deflector essentially covers the bottom of the hose that can come into contact with the driver's side alternator belt.

Proper Front Axle Spindle Bearing Depth

My son and I are in the midst of a full on front axle rebuild on his M1009. Ran into a question regarding the proper depth of the needle bearings that are pressed into the spindles - after looking through the TMs I cannot for the life of me find what the proper depth should be in order to allow...

M1009 Jack Storage Photos For Reference

We seem to have all of the original parts and pieces except for the stock size carriage bolts/wing nuts which are no big deal to replace. I would just like to see a reference photo of the original parts and pieces in the factory original locations. We will try that first and then make changes...

M1009 Jack Storage Photos For Reference

Everybody, in an attempt to keep my son from being bored, I figured we would tackle what seemed like a simple project - putting the jack, the lug wrench, and the jack handle in his truck as it is supposed to be stored. Like I said, seemed like a simple enough job. If anyone has some photos...

Water Pump Bolt / Crossover Pipe

A little heat on that water pump fitting via a Mapp gas torch and it should come out with relative ease. The threads are NPT.

    Wiring issues

Farmer1, what you are describing in your post above is exactly how the truck is setup from the factory. The driver's side alternator charges the front battery while the passenger side alternator charges the rear battery. Both batteries are wired in series to get to 24V. Both alternators is...

Lost Fast Idle Function When Cold/Thermostat Replacement Issues

More good news to report. We took out the BWD thermal switch and installed the OEM unit pulled from the local salvage yard. After getting the harness back on and the coolant refilled, we let it sit until last evening (~25 deg F outside). We then went out and started the truck and am happy to...

Lost Fast Idle Function When Cold/Thermostat Replacement Issues

Good news to report. We disassembled the truck and cleaned all of the flanges a 2nd time. Thanks to ChevyMike we got another water crossover and t/stat housing. We bead blasted those and got them all cleaned up prior to installing our heater hose fittings. Got everything buttoned up last...

Lost Fast Idle Function When Cold/Thermostat Replacement Issues

Everything looks good. I wish it was a bit warmer so we can work on it. We have to remove the old crossover and get everything cleaned up and the fitting removed in order to install on yours. I can't believe that it arrived so quick from CA.

Lost Fast Idle Function When Cold/Thermostat Replacement Issues

Thanks for the tip. I was able to source a like new crossover on FB from out west - it should arrive today. Yesterday, we took the alternators off and had them tested at the local alternator shop - brushes/diodes/rectifiers all looked good inside and tested fine. We will be removing the old...
