Battery Tray question

Picked up my M1009 earlier this week and of course it needs batteries. The batteries on it were the type the military uses on 2.5 and 5 tons. I searched and decided to get some group 31 batteries but they will not fit in my tray. I have two pieces of angle welded to my battery trayes that will not allow them to fit (See pictures). Was this a modification done by the army or am I just stupid and can't install a battery? I was going to cut the angle off but I thought I would ask here first.

Looks like a mod mine was flat. I ended up putting 2 red tops in on the back tray and removing the front one.

if you need either tray let me know as I have front and rear if you want them let me know

Definitly a modification. Mine doesn't have that angle iron
