M52A1 transmission reverse switch?

Hi,

I am a member of my town's volunteer fire dept, and we have an M52A1 tractor that has been modified to serve as a tanker for us. It was given to us by a neighboring town, and among other things, it has some wiring issues. The first one we are looking at is the reverse lights. Right now they have to be switched on manually and we would like them to come on when the transmission is shifted into reverse like a normal vehicle. So far we have not been able to find any wires coming from the transmission that would be used to do this. Can anyone tell me if the switch was in the transmission or somewhere else?

Thanks

There isn't a backup light switch on these trucks. But you could get a pneumatic switch from grainger or another industrial supply, and plumb it into the reverse sprag air line. If you look at the top of the tranny you will find some air lines. When you shift to reverse one of these lines will pressurize the sprag in the transfercase to provide power to the front axle in reverse. Just tap into that line with your switch.

I know a guy who did it in reverse. Excuse the pun. He put a different tranny in and used the electric back up light switch to power an air valve to run the sprag into the reverse mode. I thought that was pretty ingenious. And he's just an onion farmer in Upstate NY. JT out

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll bring the info to our next meeting. We have a couple guys who have been under the truck looking for that reverse connection for probably over an hour now. I think they're going to be pissed to hear that it doesn't exist.
