transmission casting number questions

I'm looking at buying a trans from a guy that says it is from a 2.5 ton. He says that there is a spec of a tag on it, but it doesn't have any numbers on it. All he can give me is casting numbers, and I was wondering if someone can tell me if it is a deuce trans from those? Here are a couple of pics he sent me earlier today.

Just a guess, but the second picture looks like the top of the trans. and the firts pic is on the side.

That was my thought also. I'm going to look at mine tomorrow when it is more light and less cold outside and see if they are the same.

Looks like you were correct Doghead, that is the top cover. I am assuming that it was universal between the 2.5 and 5-ton transmissions?

Nope, they are not the same tops for 2.5 ton or 5 ton. I have a trans out , I can look at it tomorrow to compare numbers.

by that top cover being for a m55a2 series, id guess the whole trans is a 5t

Well, crap. I guess I'll still go look at it and see what shape it's in. If indeed it is a 5 ton trans, would it be usable in a deuce?

if it is a sprag deuce NO, air shift maybe, the ptos are on different sides with the two trans, thay may be moved ????

If you can't pick it up, it's for a 5 ton. Weight difference is double.
