Luverne brush guard

Mounted my Luverne brush guard up last night. Leave it to me to do something back assward. First I put the tow hooks on upside down. Then I put them on the wrong sides nut facing the bracket. That prevents the guard from having clearance to mount..I digress. That guard is a heavy SOB. Fought with it for quite some time just to get the holes lined up. Any idea why these come with flimsy pins that don't fit the holes? Those seem to be useless and there are only two.

Ok, thinking outside the box here. Need opinions on this, as in go or no go. I'm thinking that I take the original l-brackets and flimsy brush guard that came on my HMMWV, modify the bracket by cutting a piece off and mount it to the rear as a guard for the body / tail gate. If I can back into something I will at some point. May keep a pine tree from caving my tail gate in. Gay or not gay? Yeah I'm not politically correct either.

Bottom holes work better with bolts / nuts on Luverne guard .

Instead of 4 removable pins, replace the bottom two with bolts/nuts. This tightens it up a bit but still allows the guard to swing down when you have to open the hood.
Ah, I see said the blind man. Ok that makes a lot of sense and now explains why it only came with two flimsy pins to use on top.

I have a sifferent brushguard, but when i put it on, i set it on the ground upside down and backwards. Tilt in. Install pivot bolts. Swing up. Install pins. This may work for you, too.

Do show and tell this method.
The pins for my Luverne guard are pretty stout. I believe they're 0.5" diameter detent pins. Perfect fit. Here's the trick to installing one easily:

1) place the rubber dampener on the lower pin hinges ONLY
2) hold guard up in-place as it would be installed
3) insert detent pins in UPPER mounting holes to hold guard in-place. You can temporarily use an under-sized bolt to hold up one side while you carefully line up and pin the other.
4) using the top of the guard as a lever, pull toward you to squash dampeners and insert lower pins or bolts while holding guard
5) optionally, remove top pins, lower brush guard, insert upper dampeners, raise guard, and replace pins for a rattle-free guard.

Took delivery of my 2003 M1123 HMMWV today.This is the auction listing (sold 6/27/17): http://www.govplanet.com/for-sale/H...1123-HMMWV-2-Door-w/Truck-Body-Georgia/665797My EUC wait time was 190 days!Got liability insurance through Progressive (third call was the charm, after bouncing around because they thought it was too heavy for personal and too light for commercial).Arranged shipping from Albany, GA to Charleston, SC through VeriTread.Found a shop that agreed to take delivery and work on it... But the shipping went faster than expected, and it arrived right after a freak snowstorm. Yesterday was the 3rd snowiest day on record for Charleston, and we do not know how to handle it, so we shut everything down.The shop was closed due to the weather and I could not reach them. I do not have the proper equipment for a 24 volt jump start, so I put it into neutral and we pushed it back off the trailer.I still have not heard it running, the videos on the auction listing had no sound.Used a glock cable lock that came with a pistol as a steering lock, through the wheel and around the turn signal control.Pulled about 100 loose nuts and bolts out of it, probably left over from the removal of the armor.The deep water fording switch was on, so I set it back to "vent".I plan to remove the red dot A/C for now because it is not mounted to anything.Do not have my SF-97 yet. This forum has been a great resource for planning this project, thanks!

Got my SF 97 today, went down to Tax Collectors office and got temp tag so I can take it to the "inspection" scheduled for this coming Wen. I went prepared, Sf 97, Letter of reassignment from Iron Planet, Pic of my HMMWV, current Insurance, copy of FL DMV letter and a big smile.
Now tomorrow after part I need to put her back together arrives I'll take her out for a spin, get a load of diesel, put a few easy miles on her, have a good look for any leaks after I get her all warmed up then tuck her in the garage.
