M1008 700r4 swap, gauge install, misc. repairs

Steel Soldiers, FSMO just dropped his truck off to have the 700r4 swap done plus some minor repairs and a gauge install. Will be starting next week once I get the other vehicle out of the shop bay.

How much would it cost to put a 700R4 in a M1028 (1987)? I am in WI

Also noticed you have 700R4's in your trucks. what do you get for fuel milage now?

final question... What tranny will you put behind the Cummins?

If I do it about $1500 to do the 700r4 swap, If you do it yourself around $800-1000.
I get about 18-20 mpg if I drive it nicely, if I do a lot of highway driving I get 16-17. Basically any thing over 55mph will hurt your fuel mileage. If I tow anything over 2500 lbs, my mileage drops to 13-14 mpg. RPM's with the turbo 400 at 55 mph are 2650, rpms with the 700r4 at 55 mph are 1850, these numbers are assuming you have the stock 32 inch tall tires.

As for the cummins I will be using the dodge "47rh" that is currently behind the cummins, and I have an NP205 from a 91 dodge that had the 727 with the A518 overdrive. The 47rh is basically the 727 with the A518, so the np205 will bolt right up to the 47rh without any adapters or modifications. Dodge just changed the designation of the trans in 94 when the body style changed.

Here is the truck!

Pulled out the old worn out swollen glow plug installed new, with a new terminal end. Others had already been changed.

Nice pics. I will send some of mine later. The truck is in storage right now. I noticed the receiver hitch, did you fabricate that? I also have a M101a1 trailer. Good combo!

Removed the turbo 400 and flex plate to make room for the 700r4, while it is out will be replacing the leaking rear main and oil pan gasket.

Installed a block heater!

While drive shaft is out, replacing the old leaking pinion seal with a new one.

Gauge install in progress. got the temp sensor installed in block and oil pressure line installed.

Major short in dash lights, had to go all the way to firewall connector, took 4 hours to trace and clean all the connections.

More pics, trying to find bad connections, shorts, corrosion, etc.

Sweet! The dash lights work! Well that only took about 4 hours...................maybe more.

Did the Doghead relay mod!

The gauges are installed and lights working, volt meter gauge works but not sure if the oil pressure or water temperature will work till I get the rest of the project done.

Getting the oil pan gasket and rear main fix...............that was the cleanest looking oil pan on the inside that I have seen in a long time, and no cracks on any of the crank webs!

My clicker wrench failed had to pull out the old school torque wrench. Got the oil pan gasket and pan installed.

Installed the flex plate. The infamous 700r4 and np208, getting them prepped for the install.

Changing the speedometer gears in the back of the transfer case.

The transmission is installed, the adapter is installed, transfer case installed, cross-member installed. linkages and wire hooked-up. TV cable bracket prep.
