MEP-016-C question

I'm aware that idling these generators can cause failure of the voltage regulators. I have one of Kenny's old ones and was tinkering with it this AM. I got about a 1 or 2 second run out of it with starting fluid with the gas shut off. I didn't want it to keep running until I had the answer to this question. Will it fry anything to run it with NO regulator installed and the main breaker in the off position?

If you disconnect the regulator, no harm should be done.
