I believe the original tires for the M880 series were 9.50x16.5LT, which is actually a little bigger than those currently on it. I may be wrong, but I had a M890 before and I think that's what it had on it...

I have an M880. Yeah I think those are the tires that it originally had on it, however they were NOT taller than a 9.00X 6" tire. They only ran about 29" tall overall. Definately shorter than the 9.00X16" tires on my M101A1 trailer...

stock 9.50R-16.5 Goodyear or BF Goodrich
Which were just a hair shy of 31"diameter
900-16's are 36" tall
As can be seen in the piic above a 36" tire will tear up the rear of the front fenders unless the truck is lifted.
In my avatar, My M880 has 36" humvee tires on it, I have found that they won't rub if you don't turn the wheel.

I thought the way you measured the diameter of a bias ply tire was take the first number and double it, then add to the second number.

So, for 9.50x16.5 = 35.5 inches
and for 9.00x16 = 34 inches

Am I mistaken?

I emailed the Ebay seller asking about tire size as 900x16 NDCC, tire rub and rim width.

The response:

"Yes the tires are and they are probably original. They are split rim wheels. Tire does rub on right inside of the fender and maybe a little on the left side."

Not sure about split rim, maybe he meant split RING?

Yes and no,

the9.50-16.5 & 9.50R16.5 and the 8.75R16.5 are strange and don't follow that rule they are 75% sidewall. Not 100% like the military tires.

as for the 900-16 NDT/NDCC even the XZL's they should be 34" but they range from 35.5 to 36.3 diameter, depending on brand, go figure??????????????

Donald, the NDCC was not used on the M880's by the military 9.50R-16.5's were.
The truck in question has split rims different (and more dangerous) than split ring

The size confusion comes from there being eleventy billion ways to record the size of a tire. A few were similar and confuses the hell out of people. When I was looking for 9.00R16 Michelins before I got the 11.00R16's I had a guy on another forum arguing with me after every post I made telling me that any tire marked 9.00-16 or 9.00R16 was going to be the same height as a 31" tire. Turned out he was confusing the sizes and how to read them.
