Tranny ratio.

Can anyone tell me what the 5th gear ratio is? O.D.? or direct? If O.D. how much?

I got a 6855 that was reportedly from a military 5 ton. It's a .695 OD 5th gear.

Bjorn, I don't know what tranny it is, But i do know it has a 465 multi-fuel. Did that engine only use 1 transmission?

Probably used the 6453 as the gassers used the 6352. Going by memory here gang!

If it is from a 5-ton, the gas engine and the multi-fuels used the same transmisison, (6352), the Mack and Cummins used the OD transmission (6453). The OD is 0.78:1. Both are Spicers.
The direct transmission is the working unit, the gear ratios are better spaced, the OD gives better road speed, for the lower RPM engines, but is not as good a worker due to the uneven gear spacing especially 3 to 4.

Will the 6453 fit the back of a 465 multifuel? And does anyone know the 1st gear ratios on the 6352 and the 6453?

Ahhhh, . . . finally, a question I can answer.

The 6453 was used in the -A1 M39 Series 5-tons. The M39 series is also known as the G744 series, and includes such trucks as the M51 Dump (like mine), M52 Tractor, M54/M55 Cargo, M62/M543 Wrecker, etc.

The -A1 was a MACK diesel (ENDT-673) that superseded the Continental Gas 6602 and preceded the LDS-465 multifuel (-A2 series). I'm not sure what years the Mack was produced, but IMHO they seem to be quite obscure.

(A side note: The 6602 gas and the LDS-465 multifuel both used the 6352 transmission)
Sorry if that summary is remedial for most of you.

Anyway, I found the ratios you are looking for in TM 9-2320-211-20 (5-ton series):
6453
1st - 6.07
2nd - 3.40
3rd - 1.79
4th - 1.00
5th - .78
Rev - 6.09


In case you were wondering about some specs on the Mack ENDT-673, I offer the following (again from TM 9-2320-211-20):
Brake Horsepower - 205 @ 2,100 rpm
Compression Ratio - 16.50:1
Compression Pressure - 575 psi @ 1,000 rpm
Maximum Torque - 560 ft/lb @ 1,400-1,600 rpm (gross) and - 529 ft/lb @ 1,400-1,600 rpm (net)
