just bought a new deuce. drove it home 60 mi on interstate. oil pressure sees low. changed oil rotellat 15-40. oil pressure 30 cold 20 warm. i think guages have been changed out. maybe swaped 60 psi guage for 120? engine shows no sign of being worn out? also , having idle fluctuation.runs smooth then stutters. one time today it shut off. theres a little hole where two fuel lines attach to the cold start device on the top of the engine. fuel is leaking from that hole sometimes. its weird. possibly related to idle? didnt notice the fuel leak until i started getting the idle problem. any help would be great.

Firemarshallbill!

Welcome to Steel Soldiers and thanks for fixing your signature!

If you have a fuel leak, you may be getting air in the fuel system!

That may be why you are getting a rough idle!

Fix the leak and bleed the air out of the fuel system!

There is a bleed valve on the top of the secondary and final fuel filter housing!

If you aren't sure where the housing is, let us know and we will clue you in!

20 lbs of oil pressure is a bit low when warm!

There was a thread not too long ago about checking guages! Go back and look for it!

Basic rule of thumb is 10# per 1000 rpm. I had a truck that consistently idled at 15 psi and ran up to 30 going down the road. I put thousands of miles on it without an ill effect.

Your best bet is to put a direct reading gauge on. The sending unit is on the right side of the engine on the back corner, I removed the air filter housing to make it easier to access.I had a 20 psi drop at idle cold to hot. It turned out that # 2& 3 mains were bad due to a bent crank. Good Luck!!

i looked at the manual , and the peice that is leaking fuel is the manifold heater fuel pump. it leaks where the two fuel lines go in. there is a little hole there maybe 1/16 dia.but today the truck idled great, and the pump no leaky.? as for the oil pressure , ill check it w/ a manual guage. i read on another post that the oil pressure terminals could be corroded and that could be the case.

After a week of hard rain, the oil guage in our deuce' started to give funny readings, wild fluctuations, jumping between zero pressure and too much.

We did what Pappa-G suggested and attached a cheap oil pressure guage we had lying around directly into the motor and went by it untill we could figure out how to fix the in-dash guage, which turned out to be corroded contacts from all the moisture and rain

i havent checked the oressure w/ a manual guage yet, but today i was looking at the sending unit . i thought i saw the words 120 psi.i rubbed off the paint w/ a little emry cloth w/ no sucsess. i took out the sender and walla, sure enough it was a 120 psi sending unit. i have a 60 psi guage. it appears like someone had replaced the entire instament cluster. wrong color. i guess they didnt notice the change on the oil guage. i read in a manual that those senders/guages arent compatible. i hope i found the culprit.as for the fuel leak im going to talk to the guy who sold it to me. he probably has a few of those cold start pumps lying around.

If you need a new filter for the cold weather manifold heater, I have one for sale!

It is brand new, still sealed from Uncle Sam!

Check out the parts for sale, in the Forum!

If you have a toggle switch on the left side of the dash for the flame heater, then there is a spark plug and a fuel filter for the flame heater!

My 72 AM General M35A2C has a cover over the flame heater on the passenger side of the engine, right by the dip stick!

If you have a cover over the flame heater, you will have to remove it to see the components!

Check it out!

yes i have those components under the cover. i thought though that tone of those pieces was the coil and the other was the pump. in looking at the manual i see that some had a small filter in line and some just have a pump. i just have a pump. or what i think is a pump

firemarshallbill,
You did find the problem with the sending unit. My truck also had a 60 lb gauge and a 120 lb sender. Read about the same as yours on the gauge, even though the mechanical gauge said it was much higher.

I tried to cobble in some resistors in series to the gauge to get me by, but regardless of resistance used, it was not accurate throughout the range. Haven't looked for a new sender yet.
