[3]Late this afternoon I decided to do a little door maintenance on the deuce tractor. A buddy recently bought a 50s gasser deuce that was in fire service. When checking it out the first thing I noticed was the doors closed like a new car. Not a rough spot on them. Closer look showed that they have been frequently lubed. Well as clean as my tractor is, the doors didn't close all that easy. Lucky for me it has the newer door pins that are like shouldered bolts with a nut on the bottom. I removed, cleaned, and lubed these one at a time. Also cleaned out the bore in the hinge. All but one came out reasonable. After wire brushing them off I ground 2 flat spots on opposite sides of the pin to hold grease. Lubed them up with Silglide and put all back together. They swing very smooth now. I also white lubed the catches and latches. I tried to remove the right outer door handle when the bottom screw broke off and the top one rounded off. Had to weld a bar to the broken bolt to carefully extract it. Once everything was back together they work sweet! Don't wait too long gang, lube up them doors. Sounds nice when they close now!
Next I'm going to find somebody to drill the hingepins so I can pump grease through them.[/3]
