Saw an M123 today in SW MO, earning it's keep

Cool,late production M123A1C(single exhaust out the rear) and a heater too(large bulge on the drivers side engine panel),with the early style lights and the low mounted fifth wheel.

This truck belongs to Doug T. he is a retired engineer sergeant major who does a lot of construction work around Fort Wood. Told me he drove this M123 to Springfield a while ago, took forever but made the trip 85 miles each way.

Is the cab and front fenders the same as a 800 series 5ton? If so why are the front wheels centered in the wheel well? Or better question, why is the 5ton stuff offset towards the front more?
