how do you know if the truck has airshift? The one I'm picking up Friday is a '67, I've seen earlier ones with airshift and later without, so what was the rule on those?

No steadfast rule. Spring seats and air shifts started being standard around 1970 but tons of earlier trucks had em. I once had a gas truck with the spring seats and air shift transer case.

MM!

The best way to tell if a Deuce is "AIR SHIFT" is to look at the bottom of the dash, right under the steering wheel!

There will be a bracket with a lever and an instument light!

When you engage the front axle, the light will tell you that you have 6 wheel drive!

Not that one man. No lever on a little pod hanging from the bottom of the dash. Don't fret it though. Properly adjusted the sprags don't get you out of trouble, they keep you out of trouble.

MM;
On a further note, improperly adjusted sprags have a nasty tendancy to engage the transfer case at high speeds and kill 5th gear. I'm not interested in taking chances so I dropped the front drive shaft from my truck and I'll wait to get the air shift that I want. She was originally equipped with air shift but someone else (Uncle Sam) had other ideas.

what I see! there is no air shift! It's on all the time when it is in first gear. Also reverse gear and limited gears.
