They are the same on both ends of the AXLE shaft ( the shaft from the diff to the wheel).

Gama Goat U-joint

Dave, real hard on things aren't you! Probably one of the coolest tours of the swamp I've ever been on. ahhhh the Goat. I'll help any way I can.

I'm guessing one will show up.........real soon.....if you don't have it already. Any chance one could be fabricated if we're out of options??
I saw a bunch of scrapped goats online......What about some recycled parts?

***You've probably already been here but I'll drop the link anyway.

gamagoat

*** Another shot in the dark and out of the box thought but maybe....extra parts sit in a museum somewhere. New York? Charlotte Carolina?

Carolinas Aviation Museum - They have a goat .......Fully restored and in running condition - currently in storage.

I'll keep diggin

It looks to me like the center drive axle shaft assembly (11640263 NSN 2520-00-781-7818 ) is unique to the Goat. You might have some luck bringing the shaft assy into a good heavy truck parts dealer, and letting them have a go at matching the U-joints. Otherwise - look online for someone parting out a Goat. There are several on eBay that eternally list Gama Goat parts for way more than they are worth (unless that's the only place you can find parts!).

I got a couple U joints from Capital Gear a local DriveTrain specialist and the part numbers off the bill are as follows.

TGD 5025R U-Joint, 2-6R, 2-6C Caps. They were $158.00 EA.

This is for the Center axle ( Inner and Outer ) as the front and rear are different.

Hope this helps.

All eight U joints for the front and rear drive axles are the same. The center or tractor rear (All Four) are much larger..
Glad you found them Dave..

What brand were the joints you found??

2 u joints for each axle, that's 12 total.

7 u joints on the main drive shaft.

6 u-joints are for the steering shaft.

Don't forget the 2 torus bearings on each end of the center differential and the 2 Torsilastic bearings on the carrier articulation joint and the carrier bearing on the rear drive shaft.

Fun!!!

$158 EACH?

That adds up quick on something with 30+ joints.

The center or the main drive axles in 2 wheel drive are quite large in size (requires 4 in total) but I was also in shock when he told me the price. I tried a couple of the surplus dealers with no luck so you some times have to bite the bullet with oddball style parts that are not the norm.

more confussion over U Joint NSN numbers

Just found some U Joints wrapped in grease paper, sealed in cardboard boxes and inside a plastic bag. The NSN on the box is on the government label 2520-00-086=1940. They have bolt caps on all four joints and are not going to work on my M561's wheel axles. AQre these for the drive train between the differentials and transfer case? Does anyone know for sure what the NSN is for the joints that run from the differentials to the wheels?

Greasing U-jointsas we know is very important. If you don't see grease comming out of each end of the U-joint, you might want to take it out and insure that grease is getting there.
Ask me how I know this....grrrr.

Those u joints are for most of the propeller/ drive shafts with 2520-00-086-1967 being the other u joint that is listed for them.
