Singled out 5-Ton Lugnut Fix

Changed my M923 from duals to single combat wheels. When I went to put the rears on, I found the stud-lug nut issue. Came up with my own solution that emulates duals-same thickness to allow me to use stock lug nuts. Made the plates out of 3/8" thick carbon steel. Bevel both sides of holes just like the duals have. Not that the wheels need to be beefed up, but these plates will do a better jub of distributing load across entire face of wheel.

When I changed mine from dual to single I did not have to do that. Just got front lug nuts and installed them on the rear. Like what is stated above.. how is the rim centered and locked down?

Wheels are on-then thimbels on tight-then plates-then lug nuts. Its the same mounting as duals only the new plate is basically the outside wheel less the rim and tire. The mounting is identical to the stock way.

Not sure that was all necessary, I just put the rim on like you have it then secure it on with the closed end lug nut. What issue were you referring to?

It was either this or a large tatoo to be different. This was cheaper and painless.
I didnt want the flared portion of thimble to be all that was holding the wheel on. Didnt have any closed end lug nuts!

Don't be afraid of a little pain, a tattoo is right up your alley! The closed end lug nuts are the same as what you call the "thimble", I do appreciate the different look though!

Have considered a large chest tat-5" tall letters that spell my name. Wife doesn't think its a good idea. Further, it would be to hard to lie about the tat-I am an easy target as it is!
Have one more to mount and its ride time-they look great on my truck. Only bad part is parts of me are hanging real low-these are some heavy wheels and tires.

The lower back tat is always a great spot! When you get them (the tires) on post up some pics, or maybe test ride over to my place, I'll be around!

So you put the thimbles on first, then the wheels? I would not do that. The face of the wheel needs to be flat against the hub or you run the risk of snapping the studs. If your trying to simulate dual wheels with that plate you need to do it like stock. Wheel, thimble, plate, lug nut.

Otherwise Westys set up is the best set up with combat/FMTV wheelsand lugnuts off the front. With the HEMMT (sp?) wheels you need longer studs due to the center plate being thicker.

I need to edit my post. I have it wheel on first, then thimble on tight-then wheel plate-then lug nut.
I have the new shoes on the truck but will be back to shop in morning to really tighten all lugs down. Dont have a power tool-just armstrong for this. Got a bit tired.
