I've been seeing those M1083's on flatbeds leaving Wisconsin and taking 94e to wherever for the past 2 years. I at least see 8 semi's a week with 2 of those on them. What are they used for...?

I thought the single axle one was the deuce replacement and the 2 axle ones like in the pic are the 5ton replacement?
(Of course I have been wrong...frequently...LOL)

Yeah the ones with only two axles are the duece replacement, my friend has one and they are pretty cool!!

The single-axle trucks are "2 1/2 ton" rated trucks, but that is their MAX capacity (even on-road) as opposed to the traditional 2 1/2 tons (M35s, etc) which are 2 1/2 ton off-road but 5 ton max capacity on improved roads.

The reason you're seeing them come out of Wisconsin is Oshkosh Trucks has the contract to upgrade/produce them (as far as I know). Upgrade is really a swap out of the cab, fuel tank insulation and some power hydraulics upgrades from what I know.

Cargo and trailer towing. A lot of different types of units get them. Don't let the spaceship looking cab fool you, they're just general purpose trucks.
