It sounded like they did when I heard what people were getting the 900s for.

I would think the physchological factor kicks in, you bid low because you have no bench mark, when you can see the open bid it might motivate you to pay more if the other guy is bidding up too...

Auction is over.
I bid $2850 on one (wrecker) just for the heck of it. I don't expect to win, but I'm hoping I will get to see the winning bid as a result of me entering a bid. Not sure if they do that like they do on regular auctions. If I was to win one, I would need some help getting it back. It says it doesn't run and I don't know if that means it needs batteries or a busted block.

The SEEs they sold about a year ago by sealed bid all closed in the 4-6 k range, open bid they bring 12-18K

May be one benefit is that sealed bids are more likely to be sold in large groups to fewer buyers, so they don't have to schedule so many load outs on larger groups of trucks.

GL doesn't care what this stuff sells for, they don't have any overhead in this stuff, they make money no matter what it brings.

You can check your bid history and it will say "outbid" for that event. 3DAngus, $2850 is too light for the wreckers, remember they tip the scales at 36,000 lbs and the scrappers are paying $2200 for 21,000 lb tractors. Hope they are asleep and you win anyway.

My souce told me that good wreckers sold for 3500 on the last sealed bid sale.

The scrappers are buiying these trucks and driving them out the gate to the chop shops. Engines, trannys and radiators are cut out and the tires are removed....the rest is headed to China on a slow boat.

Many years ago I met an old guy at the Pima Air Museum near Tucson AR......he took me on a tour of the boneyard at Davis Monthan Air Force Base (he worked there).

He had been working there since WWII and told me that when the war ended there were thousands of brand new aircraft flown into the base.

The fuel in the planes was worth more that the aluminum they could scrap out of them. After the fuel was removed from them they were bulldozed into piles and eventually sold as scrap. In some cases engines and avionics were taken out and sold to our "allies".aua

This has been happening for years......we just notice it more now due to the internet.

This is why gooberment contracting is so lucrative....at some point in time we will need thousands of vehicles and some contractor will make a fortune replacing all the ones that are being scrapped out now.

Your tax dollars at work.:roll::roll:

There is an old radar base in Vermont that was under construction during WWII. Growing up I was told buy the older guys who worked on it that the war ended before it was finished and the Government decided they didn't need it and quit working on it. They said that they dug big holes, put all the equipment trucks, and jeeps in the holes and buried them all.
