Could you give a brief description on how to delete old ads? I'm a moderator for another forum using vbulletin and for the life of me I can't figure out how to delete my old want ad here. It definitely isn't in Thread Tools like it should be.

Maybe this will help some find their ads quickly.

Click on classified ads

Click on "Search this forum (on the right side of the page)

Click on "advanced search" (under "search this forum")

In the specific block listed as "Search by user name", type in your user name.

Just underneath your newly typed in user name, there is a pull down menu that says,

"find posts by user". Click on that box and change it to, " find threads started by user"

Finally, at the bottom of the page, click on "Search now"

This will bring up all threads a user started in the classified, which is the same
as a classified thread created by the user name you typed in. Hope this helps.

To delete an ad, go to the ad you previously placed, then click on edit. From the edit menu you have the option of deleting.

If it's YOUR ad then there is a "delete" option under Thread Tools. If you're looking at someone else's ad then it doesn't show up.

EDIT: Sorry Gimp. Saw your edit after I posted.

Definitely my ad in a thread I started and it's not there
EDIT: In fact, it appears I'm not permitted to delete ANY threads or posts I create.

I posted post #1 to let menbers know what is going on, did NOT have to, the RULES are very simple, NOT a rocket launch sequence, I could have just DROPED hammer and let members find out the hard way that the SITE is SERIOUS about FOLLOWING the RULES, ALL the RULES, again NOBODY is forcing anybody to place a ad, so learn to talk in a high voice

Sounds like it's a personal problem :)

Just checked one of my ads and it's there. You might need to PM the Admin to see if there's something funky with your ad.

Maybe it's because of a "Wanted" ad and not a "For Sale" (which needs a Premium Membership)

I looked in both the quick edit and the full advanced edit and I cannot find the delete button. I looked in the lower right hand corner of the edit area and the whole page and could not locate it. I'm sure I'm missing it and it's on my screen somewhere. I know I've deleted a thread I've created in the past.

Bringing this back up because,
1--Some did not READ
2--Some do not UNDERSTAND
3--Some think it does not APPLY to them
4--Some think it is a JOKE
5--Some think it is UNFAIR

So with the above said,
REREAD post #1 if needed
The classifieds rules are here for a reason, if you don't like them, cl and ebay would love to have your ads

Not to be the devils advocate but it would really easy if there was a tab or link of something on my user cp to MY ads. I understand I can search the forum for my user name, but...

How does this effect wanted ads?
Easy,

1. Subscribe to your classified ads.
or
2. Click on your profile, click on threads started by.
or
3. Use advanced search, search on your user name and select the classified forum parent listing.

Subscribing is the best and easiest thing anyone can do to run ads here. Set it up to instantly email you and you'll never miss a beat.

Also on a side note, after 90 days of inactivity (org. post date and/or last reply date) on a thread, it will be pruned from the board.

I often find myself looking for ads to see what an item has sold for in the past so that I can get an idea of the "market worth" of something that I may be selling. Deleting older ads makes that hard to do.

I understand getting rid of non responsive ads, but I feel that there is value in knowing what something sold for before.

We said from the start that ads would expire/purge/delete. The classifieds were a mess. There's plenty of sources out there for pricing. GL, CL, ebay, current ads, and other websites.

Also, just because somebody ask a price for something is really a good indicator of what it's worth. I could ask 20K for a deuce but that doesn't mean it's worth that much. Now if it sold it would but there's no way of knowing if it sold or not unless somebody put "sold" it the add.

You ALL can say what you want, it WAS a MAJOR BITCH with sold/abandoned ads in the old classifieds, so this is one of the new classifieds rules, IT STAYS. Either a marked sold, or an a sold/brought abandoned ad does not give a good price indicator because who knows what deal was reached though pm/ phone call.

I have no problem with deleting old ads. I have an old for-sale ad on my web page that I leave there just because folks complimented me on the number and detail of pictures. Here it is 7 years later, and despite the bold red text at the beginning explaining that the truck has been sold, I still get the occasional email from somebody wanting to buy it.
