Looking for some ideas/places to mount a couple Jerry cans to the outside of my M101A2. Photos? Ideas? I was thinking of mounting them to the front of the bed.

Thanks
Jeff

Never seen them mounted on the out side of the trailer, but have seen them on the inside. I had a M101 that had them mounted on top of the fender wells inside the trailer.

I mounted 2 on the front of my M101A1. I've attached a couple of pics. Also put a pioneer tool rack on the back and a spare tire on the front in the middle. I'll put Hi-Lift jacks over the fenders.

I like the tool rack idea. How did you mount the spare? I'm looking to do that.

Colemans had a pile of M101 trailers that were set up by the Army as antenna trailers for radio trucks. They had the gas can racks mounted inside at the front end of the trailer.

I'll try to get a couple of pictures of the mount. It keeps the tire close to the front panel of the trailer. It is basically a A frame with a couple of wheel studs.

Do you have any pictures of the trailers or details of how they were set up? Do you know which antenna(s) they mounted? More details would be nice.

Thanks,

BTW, salt6, there are two unused wires in the M101A1 trailer wiring harness that I used to bring 24VDC into the bed of the trailer for a dome or map light with a receptacle mounted in the front panel.

That might be something you want to think about too. It is an easy mod.

No, but next time I go up there I'll snap a couple pics. The antennas were large setups, used in semi-permanent installations.

I like to mount them inside at the rear, mounted on the front makes an empty trailer tongue heavy. Having a spare in the rear or 2 jerry cans makes it a lot easier to move the around by hand. Also there have been times in the woods that having the cans mounted that far out on the front would have = broken tail light or dented gas can in a tight backing situation with a loaded trailer. With all that said I am picking up a 1102 this week that has 4 across the inside front and 1 on the tongue.2cents

You read my mind. Got a couple of dome lights waiting.

I was thinking of putting some nylon screen on the bows under the tarp. That way I can raise the side when camping.

Here you go. But I find a junk box to tools , jack, and such, pretty handy too, although two can racks would be good.
I like this set up. Is that a 20mm Ammo can? Did you fab up a bracket/base to mount across the trailer frame rails? So far, this is my favorite as it looks very useful and you would really have to jack knife the trailer to cause any damages to the tow vehicle as mentioned previously.

What can are You guys using. I heard the surplus can leak badly and everyone recommends the plastic "Scepter" cans that we cant get here in the U.S. The Nato cans I found online look nice..

I really like Rosco's set up. 1 Jerry can is plenty for me. I like the idea of the ammo box for storage of tools, tie down straps, etc.

Harley. Where did you get that photo? Wondering where that guy had the black cover made for his trailer? Cool set up.

Here is a double can mount that we put on our trailer for the MVPA Alaska Highway Convoy. I also have a can on each running board of the WWII Dodge. It is a long way between gas stations were we are going.

The double GI can rack is off some unknown current equipment at Ft McCoy. There were several of these racks available at the Iola WI swap meet last summer.

I saw a couple of modified old antenna trailers this weekend at a HAM Field Day that had pretty impressive military crank up triangle towers. One of those antenna trailers with a truck full of green radios would be fun.

Thus the interest in the trailers you saw.

Thanks,
