My M1009 would start great cold but when I shut it off for an hour it would just crank till the batteries dang near died. When it cooled off it fired right back up with no issue. I have been troubleshooting for the past two weeks checking the batteries, all wiring, glow plugs and lower fuel pump. I was hoping that I would find a fix so I would have to buy a new IP! Well I used the water test method (get the motor hot shut it down wait stanadyne db2829-4521till it won't start poor warm water over yhe IP and start it) and (sigh) it's the IP.

So I have a DB2829-4425 in there now. I looked in the TM and said to use a DB2829-4521. I would like to put a 4521 in it but having a hard time finding one. So I would like to know what I should do. Replace it with an equivalent part from a civi truck if so what is a good one to use. Or does anyone know where to get one. Thanks

Have you tried replacing the ESO? I have seen the ESO's crack, a lot, or generally get weak over time (high winding resistance when hot). The coils in the ESO expand from heat and can cause the ESO to become too weak to move the metering valve to the fuel on position. Not to say it couldn't be the pump, that's a possibility, but I would see about a new 12v ESO. The newer ESO's are about 1/3 larger than the old ones the difference will be obvious when you pull the cap.

ESO (electric shut off)? I have removed the red wire the is on top of the IP while the motor was running and it shut off. I put it back on turned the key and it fired up. I waited for a little till it would just crank over then turn the key to the on position and removed the red wire and I could hear the clicking. Is it possible that its not opening all the way to allow fuel to go to the injectors? I am trying to get out of buying a new IP! I will look into that more thanks albersondh

This is what I have looked into all of these are for the 84-87 CUCV

-4267 '84 HD CUCV

-4309 HD CUCV

-4386 HD '84 CUCV (1.2cSt)

-4520 '86-'87 HD CUCV

-4521 '86 CUCV (1.2cSt) this on is in the TM

From what I have read the 1.2cSt is for arctic conditions and will run thicker fuel i.e. kerosene, JP-8 and 5.

I currently have a 4425 on the 6.2 in my truck which is a light duty (LD) pump. I have seen posts about 4502 (LD C/K truck) 8th vin # C and a 4544 (HD C/K truck) 8th vin # J. I ordered a 4544 from Diesel Care and Performance Inc. for $340. I am putting I in these week end so I will post more about it.
