Classifieds clean up

As some of you may have noticed, there have been some new mods assigned to help get the classified adds in order. We have been cleaning up threads and ask for everyone's help in this matter. These are just recommendations and there won't be any official rule changes at this time. All the official classifies rules still apply.

1) There are many post that have nothing to do with the ad in the threads. We have begun to delete unnecessary posts and will continue to do this from now on . We ask that you don't post unless it is directly pertaining to the item listed.
2) Don't try to sell anyone's item for them either by saying how good of deal it is or telling how great the item looks. Let the seller handle the sales pitch.
3) While it is a rule that you are allowed to bump your thread once a week, some people appear to be trying to slip around this. Bump your thread once a week but don't just post under the guise of "adding new info" or telling somebody "PM sent" or something to get your thread back on top.
4) There is really no need to post things like "PM sent". If you send somebody a PM, they will get a notification and they don't need to check the thread to know you sent them a PM.
5) There is no need to post "payment sent" or "item shipped". This is best handled through PM.
6) When the item sells delete your thread. Do not post "sold" and leave it up. If for some reason you can't delete your add, let a mod know or hit the "report post" icon and we will take care of it.
7) If you lower the price on the item, please edit your first post to reflect the new pricing.

As I said above, we are trying to clean things up and could use everyone's help in this.

On a side note, it has been brought to my attention that some of the threads have had the "bump" deleted at the end of the thread which moves the thread back down on the list. I was probably the offender. Being a Jr. mod, I mistakenly thought that the thread would still remain toward the top if I deleted the last post. If this has happened to anyone, feel free to re-bump the thread or PM me and I'll un-delete the post. I won't delete the last bump from now on. Again, I'm sorry.

Can you state if an item is high quality or a good item if you bought one (and they have multiple) or you bought one identical to what they are selling?

I had an ad for my M1102 that sold and hasn't yet been picked up , scheduled in March, looks like it's been deleted by somebody, no big deal I guess ,... technically it may have hit 90 days,

Personally, I think it would just be best to make this known in the feedback and just leave it out of the thread. People don't use the feedback much, why I don't know.

I didn't delete (I don't think) but somebody may have. If a item has been paid for it's best to go ahead a delete the thread. If the deal falls through you can just start another one.

I just had to deal with a few threads for violating the 7 day bump rule. When people do this it's not fair to the other members who abide by the rules.

I don't agree with #2 either, I can talk all day long about how good my stuff is but wouldn't you feel better about buying something someone else said was good? I know you said it should be done in feedback but then you immediately contradict yourself by saying no one uses it.

I have responded and sold to several ads in the WANTED sections, Have thought that those are technically my ads plus I don't think I could delete the original any way,

glassk - I had to revert to asking DH to delete a couple ad's I had posted up until someone finally pointed out I could do this myself which made me feel really stupid asking when I could have done it myself in the first place - ask the Classified Mod how to do that again and post it up. I would but I am an ole fart and cannot remember.

Sorry, we're trying to eliminate the chatter that's coming out of the classifieds. In all honestly what someone buys or doesn't buy is more up to them to do the research on.

Most likely it was automatically prune as you say.

If it has been paid for, it's sold. I have ads pending, but not sold so I leave them up.
Perfectly acceptable.

HI good deal was seeing a lot of old ad's too.
Hopefully with the addition of new staff and these guidelines, we'll get things in order.

I don't agree with #2 either, I can talk all day long about how good my stuff is but wouldn't you feel better about buying something someone else said was good? I know you said it should be done in feedback but then you immediately contradict yourself by saying no one uses it.
"Bump for you, if only I had the money" "That's nice, bump for you" "Good luck with your sale" "I wish I had the funds"

This is the kind of stuff we're really trying to get rid of. People commenting in threads having no real intention of purchasing anything. Just watch the new posts results and look at the ads in the past that returned. If you viewed them, more often than not it was due to a pointless reply.

I have no problem with people wishing others well on their sales. But it simply is outta hand.

Sometimes if you change your price and the original ad is too old you can't edit it.
Correct, due to the global setting, that can happen. In that case, please report the thread with a quick little blurb on what needs to be addressed. That way all the staff will see the alert and whomever is free can address it.

Correct, you wouldn't be able to delete it since you're not the OP. That should fall under the thread starter's responsibility.

From the top of the thread, there's a administrative button. Click on that and you can delete the thread (if it's in the window). Alternatively, you can edit the post (1st one) and select to delete it there.

Just as an FYI, the entire mod staff had a good discussion on how to minimize the chatter going on in the classifieds and keep them as fair as possible. One option was to close them to any response and force all comms to be done through PM allowing only the original poster to bump his ad every 7 days. While this would have fixed the problem, it was agreed that some open posts was best. The only reason that option was discussed was the fact that bye and large, there is a good portion of members that will devote great thought and effort on ways to usurp the rules set forth by the site owner. The new moderators have been discussing options on making their AOR as efficient and user friendly as possible. The rules set forth are a great baseline and the new mods have been given the authority to what they feel is best with them. Help them, help you! Work with them. Also, just because there is the ability to post in the classifieds, this doesn't mean the PM box doesn't work. If you have info to add that is good or bad, you can share or warn off anyone in the PM box.

In addition to "I wish I had the money" cruft posted to ads my least favorite is "I wish I was closer, I'd buy it".

Yeah, and I wish I was richer and better looking.

M16ty admitted he had already caused a minor problem in bumps and the new team is working very hard to clean up so they have the support of the rest of us.

And those kind of posts I agree should not be made, I meant more like "I just got my dobob thingamahicky and it is well worth the money, thanks". Basically, someone who did purchace something that wishes to speak good of it and possibly ease the mind of someone who was on the fence about purchacing said dohicky.

Patracy said it better than I did.

I do think people should use the feedback more. I didn't contradict myself, I think people should use the feedback more but I can't force them to. A lot of people will comment in the thread about how good of deal they got in the thread but they never will use the feedback.

Well, I for one asked for some cleanup and protection of those paying for the service. I really do appreciate you getting more involved, and I admit, I for one am as guilty as any about being both complimentary and complementary.
I will discipline myself and refrain from further comment on the classifieds. Good to have the help M16ty.
