Military Ambulance in Holland

I don't know the M number of my truck. Perhaps anyone of you do? I have this 1982 GMC K3500 ambulance, It's part time 4x4, dually rear wheels, front and rear AC, PS, it did have a PTO whinch but the previous owner took it off. It came from the USAir Force in Europe. 350 V8 gas engine converted to propane (by me)

No that looks to have the Dodge box on it. and that cab was a truck cab to begin with.. if you look close you can see some flashing in between the cab and box. that looks nothing like the cucv. I bet is was "made" by the AF.

That truck has no "M" series number for it. It is an, what we called an "off the shelf item". That ambulance was built for a base hospital to use on the base, just like a base maintance truck for fixing base the plumping in base housing. I have seen them made on 1 ton jeep trucks, Dodge trucks, Ford trucks and Chevy trucks.
Most bases have one 4 wheel drive ambulance to respond to injuries in the field from training.

Yes, it is similar as the Dodge M886 except this GM has a longer wheelbase. Even longer as the CUCV or M1010. The M1010 is more like a pickup but mine is a "walk thru" , a sliding door between the cab and the ambulance body. A friend of mine used to have a M886 Dodge ambulance and when parked next to mine we noticed te ambulancebody of the Dodge is about a foot and a half shorter than the GMC. When I got it 5 years ago it had one civilian owner for a short time. It had only 33.000 miles on it. I plan on restoring it soon and use it as a camper. I took all the ambulance stuff out of it and I want to add a few items such as antennas and lights. I keep it OD green tho..

Yes, I saw about 3 of them that were made into 4 wheel drive ambulances for military base hospitals. One sold here at MCAS Cherry point about 2 years ago. All 3 had duals on the rear.

Frank Is right, This was never a " M " series truck, I do think you should still restore it as it was used by the Air Force.

Hmm, I have no use for an ambulance. A camper is better for me but from the outsie I keep it green plus a few extra things like antenna and lights.

Just so you know it's a K35, not a K3500. The extra 00's didn't get added until the new body style came in around '88.

it is a GMC, not a Chevy so it is K3500
(says on it tho)

Nope, Chevys of the era were K10, K20, K30 while GMC's were K15, K25, and K35. After the IFS front end in '88 it became K1500, K2500, and K3500 for both.

Well, it says 3500 on it..

I took it to my workshop yesterday so I can start restoring it. It had been sitting for 6 years now. It started right up, I pumped up some tires and drove it home. What a fun, driving this!

What ever K number it is I like it. It would be great On Cape Lookout as a camper/sleeper fishing for drum.
