Do any of you guys know if there is a market for these in the USA? The condition of the one I have access to is similar to the one in the pic. It is mostly complete, might be missing some cosmetic stuff.
Has a Rolls Royce engine in it currently (not running). Have been told collectors have switched them to Ford Powerstroke diesels using an adapter plate on the tranny....

Just curious to see if there is a market for this thing.... any thoughts, comments appreciated.

Thanks

Derick

These are a nightmare mechanically and some parts are really hard to find after so many years. The transmission is especially a problem. It cannot be substituted yet it is very complex and hard to find spares.

Like I said, I'd buy it, depending on a few factors such as location, asking price, actual condition, and final haggled price. Get back to me once you have some concrete info please.

its shipping from South Africa on a container, would come into Norfolk, VA. Can get you better/actual pictures of it. PM me your email address and I will get that arranged if still interested. I can also get you in touch with actual owner which would probably be the best way to go.

Bump, I'm curious how this turned out. Is the consensus on here that these are not worth the hassle? Is there anyone in USA that restores or overhauls these? I have been offered one that is a paperweight now, appears to be complete, but I am just wondering whether it's financially viable to restore it, especially a nut and bolt restoration. Put another way, does anyone have any idea how much a shop would charge, assuming nut and bolt restoration?

I presume this sum would exceed market value of finished product, but just wanted input from anyone who might have some experience with this.

There are some places in the US selling them, they ain't going for 12K either......
I presume they are going for more? If you know of anyone selling, please post link or PM me. I presume 80% of the pricing is driven by condition, so at end of the day a $12K paperweight may be worse deal than $50K museum quality restoration unit.

You need to invest in a manual before seriously considering one of these. Their complexity cannot be overstated. And re-engineering is a pipe dream.

You can probably find a better running Saracen for less in the UK. I have a Ferret (the Saracen's little brother) and I've been lusting after a Saracen MK6 for several years now. It's 50s era british wheeled armor, it's going to be odd to find parts for but a runner is quite nice. They're less complicated than a Stalwart swimmer and you can get to most things under the floor, with a bit of work.

They're NOT for the faint of hearted though. Check http://milweb.net for the classifieds section there or vendors.

I bit the bullet and bought one. Being shipped from UK next weekend. Can't wait, now just have to find a place to store it.
The details will work themselves out; trust the MV gods.

You must be married (And to a Wonderful Woman, of course), but I'm guessing she's been inadvertently poisoning your reasoning with those kinds of minor concerns.

In the words of a British armor collector, "If you buy a Saracen and your wife doesn't divorce you, you found true love." The way I look at it, if she kicks me out to the curb, I have a place to sleep (back of a Saracen);). I tried to upload photo of Saracen, but something is glitching.
