A few mods done to my 1078, * More Added*

Here's a few mods I did to the LMTV. I hope you may get some ideas for your projects from them

First was a keyed switch. I do this to all of my trucks, mainly for 2 reasons. First is I always drive with my lights on and don't like forgetting to turn them off. Second is if anyone gets in and starts flipping switches and levers, nothing will start or kill my batteries. The switch controls a 24 volt continuous duty relay in the battery box that breaks the 12 volt power to the truck. This inhibits all start functions and I leave my light switch on all of the time. Power comes off of the 24 volt lug in the dash which is always hot.

Interior dome light controlled by door switches. I'm using a 12 volt LED RV light that is also on the 24 volt tap with an inline resistor for voltage drop. I installed door jamb switches and a 3-way door-off-on switch so I can control the dome light as needed.

Next are 2 GoLights mounted on the antennae mounts on either side. I mounted the remote switches in an electrical hobby box along with the backup/rear LED lights.

I'll also installed a backup camera which I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Nice mods. I especially like the lights mounted on the antanae mounts. I might try something like that with a magnetic base and quick release plug so I could pull the lights for a show but still have them available to use for trail rides and such.

Oh I like the light idea. Doing this on pass side, as my Cb antenna is on driver's side.

Going to wire mine up so I can swap between my big whip (business class radio) and the light. Great idea!

Andy, I love the keyed ignition, I tried to open the attachment and it was no good, would love to see where you got the key from and how you wired it up,

Good mods. The ones I did to my M1081 are somewhat similar. I put lights in mine but they are push button only and SUPER bright LED's. I see you put in a 12volt outlet and I did that too with a 12v USB/Volt gauge/outlet combo. I need to get a keyed ignition!

The keyed ign is nice you can park and drain the air and the average meddling hands cant start the truck and build air. If someone knows the truck thats a different story.

First modification I made was to put a keyed ignition in series with the push button start. It's the first vehicle I've owned with push button start, couldn't get rid of it. Like Will said, if you pull the dash panel and look underneath, a simpleton can bypass the keyed switch. But it's not the intended purpose to deter a motivated threat, but to deter the casual theft. And if you have a key, you have to know which one of three positions is the correct one to complete the circuit. $10 peace of mind

I rekeyed the doors. I figure if anyone is motivated enough to bust the window to get in, then know how to start the truck (power switch, then push button), then they probably know how to get around a key since the dash comes out so easily. My peace of mind is knowing I have enough insurance that if it's stolen I can replace it with a nicer truck.

And on the starting aspect, I have a friend that is very mechanically skilled, driven thousands of miles in military vehicles, has driven THIS truck, and he still has to stop and think about how to start the truck when not having done it in a couple of months. The average idiot probably couldn't figure it out.

hmmm... crazy idea; sorta practical. Drill a hole in the cover just above the *Start Inhibit Switch. Install a plastic rod of some sort (or anything that won't conduct electricity) Fabricate it so the rod floats just above the switch. Push it when you get out of truck. And of course; remember to push it again when you plan to drive her. For everyone else not in the know ..... without pushing it at startup it will still allow truck to spin engine... BUT NOT START.
