I have been collecting Military Vehicles for over 25 years. I have never heard any one say any thing bad about Vintage wiring of Maine. Also, let them know the year of your M37, as I think there was two different wiring harnesses used.

I've used some other harnesses, but the ones at Vintage Wiring or Maine really are nice, and the documentation that is supplied with a new harness and the customer service really are a cut above. Frank is right about making sure that he has the right year if you are doing a restoration, however, if you go with the most recent harness, you get service stop and tail lights on both sides, turn signals (make sure that it is setup for the current solid state flasher), and rubber wireing connectors, so that you can be compatible with the current supply of electrical parts and increase the safety of the vehicle just as it would have been done in a depot rebuild.

VMoM is my go to source for evething these days.

sounds like the source for the wiring. I have sent them an email and hopefully can get one on its way. I am wanting to get the truck mechanically sound before addressing the rust issues. Thanks for the info.

M37-B1 Wiring

I just finished replacing the wiring harness on my 63' M37-B1.

I went with the harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine, and I am very pleased at the quality and attention to detail!

Take your time and double check every step and you will find it very rewarding.

It is a great way to learn all the inner workings of the m37.

I am waiting to hear back from Vintage Wiring of Maine so I can get it ordered. I was looking at the wiring and it is suspect in more than a few areas. I don't want any problems to creep up later. When I did my '70 power wagon I overlooked the electric system and it caused me nothing but trouble. The truck does not have power to any circuits except the ignition side. None of the lights work but so far what I am finding is some real bad grounding issues. Once I can eliminate the wires I will concentrate on making things work.
I noticed one of the head lights was broken. In the Pinz community it is common to use a Hella bulb for better lighting. Is this also the case with these trucks? if so what bulb?

We are really looking forward to the day when the truck is back on the road/trails.

So if I understand this correctly I will need one each, per headlight, 79562 lens and one each 78143. I will also need the appropriate connector for the bulbs.

The Garbee site is an excellent site, kudo's for a job well done.

Don't you just hate the new guys with all the dumb questions? I will get up to speed shortly.

Thanks, and yes, you have the quantities right...
I would suggest that you add a relay to at least the high beam side (or better yet, splice one in between the three lever light switch and the dimmer switch so that it powers high and low headlights) so that you don't overload the circuit breaker if you ever pull a trailer...

I will look at my parts bin tonight and will add to my site the number for a nicer harness plug that I found last week at Advance Auto when I was working on the XM708. It is a heavier duty plug then the one that I used on the other vehicles...

Ask all you want... :)

I was ordering the parts for the lights and noticed a rubber boot. In the installation photos on the garbee site it shows a rubber boot for the light. Am I to assume I need to get a boot for each light also?

I recieved the CD manual today and got the truck through the level one inspection at the AZ MVD. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a title and start working on the truck.

The boot is included with the reflector/lens assembly.

Good news. Let us know when the parts get in and I'll walk you through the installations (there are a couple of tips that will make more sense when you have the lights and harness in hand that will save you some time and skinned knuckles...).

I was quoted $650 for the M37 and $800 for the M37 B1. I received the harness and does it look great. The harness came complete except for the wire from the generator to the regulaor. I was hoping to get to it this weekend but had an invite to a mud fest for the Pinz.
I managed to get the "stuck of the event" award. I had to be lifted out of a mud hole with a front end loader. My son is hoping to take the M37 next year.

By the time you have the harness(s), new or rebuilt lights, switches, gauges, eTc, there will be about $1,500 to $2,000 in the electrical system. Not counting the starter, generator, or ignition parts.

MV's aren't cheap to restore anymore.

Then again, neither are new 4X4 POS either.
