My new deuce was hauled into town last night by MD Carriers along with lavarok's. After offload we were going through the trucks looking through the various spoils, when Ian spots a note taped to the top of the glovebox. Here is what the note says:

"Please treat my Madeuca with care and respect, and she will do the same. I put the last 5,000 miles on her w/ no problems over the last 9 years. If who ever buys this truck, take care of it. She will be missed. She helped with hurricane katrina and many humanitarian relief missions. 16 Sep 2008"

The note was unsigned. She was an Illinois Army National Guard truck and appeared to be based in Springfield, IL.

To the soldier that wrote this note, she will be cared for to the best of my ability. She won't be cut up or abused. She needs a little TLC, but we should have her up an going shortly. Feel free to stop by and see her anytime.

That is too cool!

The back of my M109 looked like they just walked away after the last exercise and didn't bother to take anything with them.

Well that's just great! But I hope the soldier washed her down after the Katrina recovery.

A 53rd guardsman "The Gator Brigade" once told me that my truck likely was involved in the Andrew aftermath - it seems most of the Tampa motorpool was sent to Homestead. Thinking of that makes me smile.

Thanks all for the comments. Right now she's sitting about 40 miles south at lavarok's place. Hopefully, we can get the Shuttle safely off the ground Monday, and I can get down there to get her the rest of the way home.

Hopefully we will get her running shortly! She has fresh diesel and the fuel is getting past the secondaries; however, she doesn't want to run! Appears to have a G code IP.

In going through the paperwork left in the truck, I think I may have determined the name of the soldier that left the note. Would it be acceptable to try to contact him?

Apparently, Madeuca spent her last several years in service with Company C 634th Brigade Support Battalion (formerly Forward Support Battalion), Illinois Army National Guard. Here is a link to their website,

Company C, 634th Brigade Support Battalion, Illinois Army National Guard

I bet he would just be very glad to hear where the truck went to, or he would not have left the note.
Sort of like the carpenter signing a covered up board in a house.

Send him a letter have your wife sign it to. The Soldier will know it come from a family guy that loves trucks. Nothing strained and if he wants to answer maybe your wives can start exchanging xmas card like two mother inlaws.
