OK, finally decided to go for it : put the 109 in the shop today to pull the box off. Getting the 2-axis 5th wheel put on next. Then mounting the spare behind the cab ala 5-ton, with a boom so I can actually get it down from there. A fuel tank will go where the spare was, with a filter system so WMO and other stuff can go in the 2nd tank directly. I know, first things first. I have aluminum diamond plate for decking, don't know about fenders yet. Thats the trouble with this truck : I just can't seem to leave it alone !!!

I'll be watching this thread for I'm starting the very same project myself with a m35a2 ww,i also have all the gear off the back of a five ton to go on,will shorten up the frame behind the rear wheels for clearence. This rig will be designated for pulling my m149. What will you pull with yours? Good luck with the project!

I'll have to see what a rack looks like. I'm thinking the spare will work to stop headaches, I dunno tho.

what are you doing w/ the box?
I'm in Tucs right now troubleshooting our 109 after driving them here on as much dirt as we could find.

:driver:I have a M-820 that I was thinking about pulling the box and making a long wheel base cargo or pssibly a LWB tractor---thoughts?
Thoughts? Sure, I have a thought. Make a LWB tractor but put a knuckleboom behind the cab. Would work great for unloading a flatbed semi trailer.

I'm not going to begin to tell you what to do with your trucks but it drives me nuts seeing guys pull boxes off M820's and M109's when I'm dead set on finding one period. I suppose they are more plentiful than M814's and M36's.

Of course I'm the guy who wanted to stretch a M916 frame and put a box on it...LOL

I am a bit of a purist, so I am biased ;), but aren't M35s or such, that is cheaper and more common than an m109? Sell the M109 and get a deuce to make a tractor. I am sure you have your reasons for wanting to keep the truck you have, but selling the M109 could possibly get you a really nice M35 with which you could form a tractor out of...couldn't it?

I do believe, however, in freedom, and you have the freedom to do with the truck what you want. I am only thinking out loud here.2cents

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your future rig.:grd:
