cucv tires

OK guys,
Within the next couple months I need tires on my CUCV. I would like to stick with the stock size 31x10.5x15. I have been looking at Goodyear Wrangler, BFG A/T's and I was looking at Maxxis Bighorn. I am not a fan of goodyear tires but on a truck I guess I could live with them.

What do you all use on your CUCV's? I want an allterrain.

I have Toyo Open Country on mine 33x12.5x15's M/T's.
They are a GREAT tire. 33x15's are back ordered at the moment, but the Metric sizes 275, 295 are readily available.

I have an 1984 M1009 and an 1986 K10 pickup (non CUCV). They both run the 31x10.50 Uniroyal Liberator A/T tires which I purchased from Walley World (Walmart) . I like these tires.

I have Definity Dakota MT tires 31x10.50 R15 on my M1009 and they are great tires. Been off road with them many times and grip well in mud and dry conditions. Worked well in the snow and ice, but the snow was only about 4" being we do not get that much here in Fort Worth. They are also not loud at highway speeds and have a fairly smooth ride, still not like a street tire but decent.

I got mine from a local mom & pop tire shop, but I am sure you can get them a places like Pep Boys. Right now they about $140 and offering buy 3 get the 4th free. That is a good deal as I paid allot more for mine.

Spends more time on-road than off so far!!!
I love the tires, VERY quite.
So far offroad, I've never been stuck, but I really haven't gotten into the GOOD stuff.

The 33's are "limited" run tires, I think because of the 15" rim size. I believe the 16's, 17's are more readily available.

My M1009 has a 4" lift, so more than enough clearance. I also like the 33's because I can go 65MPH all day long and the engine is singing like a sewing machine!!! I think around 2000 RPM, based on the calculator.

K9Vic- thats a nice tire I really like the FREE part. lol I think I seen it was a 40,000 mile tire

I don't have them on the CUCV, but I have had quite a few sets of the BFG All Terrains on various trucks and they are great tires. They are some of the best in icy, snowy conditions. I too wanted to stick with the stock tire size for Tank. I didn't want to lose the good icy road manners of the well siped BFG All Terrain, but I did want something just a tad bit more aggessive. A good compromise seemed to be the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. It still has lots of siping, but has some nice lugs as well. I don't have more than a few hundred miles on the Duratracs, but I like them so far.

Mine are Silent Armor all around including the spare. Stock M1009 size. So far, good tire, they don't seem noisy to me.

I don't have any right now, but I've had at least one set of B.F.G. all terrain radials on 1 of my 4x4 trucks since 1979. They are great wearing, quiet & very good gripping. The B.F.G. mud terrain tires work great too. They grip better, but seemed to wear faster. & were a little noisier on the road. (no problem as cucv s aren't exactly silent anyway) John

BF Goodridge tires

I just put a set of BF Goodridge AT/KO's 285/85/16 on my M1008 fit nice with no mod's excellent on and off road. Replaced shocks too, great ride over the old Coopers.

For the price and performance I am pleased with my tires. They were much cheaper than the factory tires.

I would go with BFG A/T. We have used every tire under the sun from full race to mom's car, and we now like to run BFG A/Ts on everything that does not see race abuse. THEY WORK!!! and they work on all terrain, snow, dirt, sand, pavement, mud's pretty dang good, and they are tougher than most other a/ts we've encountered. And they wear excellent.

If my pockets get deeper i will run 37 BFG A/Ts on my OH9.

I can get BFG or GY for about 150 each

I've got BFG AT's on my Durange and GY silent armors on my boy's 09 and I personaly like the GY's for grip over the BFG's.

I've ran BFGs and wasn't gitty for them and a buddy of mine runs the big horns. The big horns perform alittle better then BFGs and there cheaper. That's my two cents. Oh the big horns are alittle noisier then BFGs but that's a moot point I think.

OK, Update--
I have decided on GY Wrangler Silent Armor
Had them delivered today, I am installing tomorrow. They have raised white letters. I plan on turning them in but the hillbilly in me says out, its kinda like a superman and bizzaro superman struggle. me am confused. (you comic book guys will get that, LOL).

So fellas what will it be whites in or out? WWYD? (What would you do)

I went with 33x12.5x15 dura trac and they work for me ... I do moderate trails here in Az in the dirt and hills. I have noticed a slight increase in mpg about 2.2 per gal over nitto MUDs but they don't look as agressive ... I paid 178 a piece I think installed ... With warranty and junk ... Little high but I was happy with the service ....
