I am purchasing a 5 ton with the multifuel engine. The own tells me that he uses ATF and atleast 20% diesel to run the truck. I have read a lot of the posts on Alt fuel message board, but I have some question since I am just getting my feet wet with this. First is will any diesel engine run on any oil, ATF or old engine oil? Second, what can I run my Multifuel engine on. Can I use old engine oil, ATF, Power steering fluid, etc. I know I can run WVO, but I am looking for other sources and possible do some blending.

Multifuels can run on just about anything oil based. we run 100% waste motor oil. In the winter we thin it with about 5 gal of gas to 45 gal of oil for easier cold starts. The most important thing is filtering the old oil. Otherwise you will clog your fuel filters pretty fast. Trans fluid, hydraulic oil, it all works. You will need to check if the FDC has been bypassed on the IP. The military did this. Its easy to hook back up. Do a search on it and you will get a better explaination. Some very high compression diesels can run on a mix but you can have a lot of issues with their injectors. Good luck with your truck

To answer your question, NO, all diesels will not run on alternitive fuels.

The newer computer controlled engines really hate anything but diesel.

As stated the Multifuel Engine is just that. a true multiple fuel burning machine. Just about anything flamable.

There are hundreds of website that discuss alt fuels.

Just watchout for the first time you run waste vegitable oil. It wil CLEAN the system and clog your filters.

Also check into getting a Blenders License from your state. With the budget problems they are looking into anyway to collect revenue. Search for the trheads when guys have paid a HEFTY fine running anything except straight diesel.

No real need to hook back up the FDC.

It is a neat feeling just pouring stuff in the tank that normally doesn't go there. To really get the exact types of fuels you can run, the manual is a great resource. The -10 list them out for you. Should be a data plate on the dash that says what you can and can't run.

Older diesels will tolerate some alt fuel....my 87 Diesel Ranger will run fine on 50/50 diesel/veggie oil in the summer.

Years ago it was common for large trucking companies to filter there waste engine oil and mix it with diesel in their company tanks.

Straight veggie oil does not have that cleaning effect....it is bio-diesel that has been made with metanol and lye that will clean the system out.

I have not had an issue with veggie oil clogging my filters unless it gets real cold and thickens (this is usually caused by the veggie containing animal fats due to being mixed with lard).

Thank you for all the response. I went to the COMVEC show and everyone was great too. It is good to see there are still true good hearted American out there. I am planning to use this truck on my farm to haul material, plowing, on the beach, parades and camping. So I will be using the alt fuel off-road. I will be putting a second on the truck marked for off-road use only. I think the blenders license maybe a little premature right now. I need to see how how running Alt fuel works out for me first. If I do get into blending on a large scale, I will definately look into a license.

I run my Deuces on 100% used motor oils filtered clean.
Living proof when a idiot stole fuel from my tank and pumped in right into his diesel truck he made it just to the end of the shops parking lot before his truck died and was busted.
So no, not all diesels can use oil in their systems and still run.

I do not feel it is worth the ip risk to use anything but deisel im my 250, others may be fine with it, I for sure would not run other stuff in a mack, the ip cost way to much. my way of thinking is that it will take a LOT of alt. fuel savings to pay for a ip

Wasnt funny for him being a firefighter and loosing his job over it too let alone an felony record. If he would have just asked, I have 55 gallon drums of diesel clean fuel and I would have given him some.

No, not really. The methanol, and lye are used to make sodium methoxide, which is a catalyst in the reaction that forms the methyl ester (mono-alkyl methyl ester) that is also known as bio-diesel. There is absolutely no lye, or methanol left behind when the bio-diesel is formed. Methyl ester is a wonderful solvent in its own right!

[I'm not trying to bust your nuts, but saying that methanol and lye are used in making bio-diesel and implying that they are why bio-diesel cleans the system out, is just like saying that iron ore and coke are used in making sulfuric acid and steel, and implying that is why steel rusts...]

I am enclosing a PDF that details the process for anyone that is interested. It is dirt simple and cheap to do.

A buddy of mine at work has a lot of farm equipment, and I was getting ready to have a nice supply of WMO lined up until I told him my plans. He re-neg'd in the deal once he filtered a batch of WMO and started mixing it 50/50 in his tractors and 1995 dodge farm truck and found that his equipment actually like burning it.

is anyone burning Synthetic oil in there MV? I will be changing my axle gear oil and hear that it get turns to paste when mixed with regular gear oil. I don't want that in my fuel tank!

REGARDING CUCV'S; I currently run B20 in my M1008 and have gone about 5000 miles so far with no problems. But some place I read that if you go with B100 it will cause havoc with IP and Lord knows what else.

So I'm wondering; Has anyone successfully run home made bio diesel in their CUCV? by successful I mean without IP overhaul.

The Multi fuel engine is made for just that Multi-Fuel, The GM 6.2 I fill up with 20 gallons of diesel fuel and add a quart of Amoco 20/50 engine oil. The only reason I add the engine oil is because it,s free and it lubricates the fuel pump. The current Diesel fuel has lost it's lubricating properties. My truck runs fine, no smoke. The M35A2 Multi-Fuel is amazing but pre filter the fuel with a good Raycore triple filter system, if not using Diesel.

Last Month I had to have a 1028 towed home for the wrong fuel. I went to the same pump for 4 years since the new BP opened up, Then one day with no signs posted they changed the pump to E85 Flex fuel. I filled up with 14 gallons, so I had 6 gallons of diesel. With that Mix I went a total of 3 miles until the truck came to a stop.

I had to go home pump out the flex/diesel mix, replace the filter and that was that. The truck started right up and has not run better since. The mix I extracted had a hi water content. I think the Alcohol in the E-85 soaked up the water, Truck runs like a raped ape and is quieter.

Thats my2cents
