Any Regrets Bobbing Your Deuce?

Only regret was on my pocket book, all that stuff adds up.
What "stuff"?

I bought the truck for $1500, I got the trailer from GL for $150. The drive shaft was $100, the U-bolts were the same ... that's $1,850. I guess I put about $100 worth of nuts and bolts into the project.

I sold the extra rear axle for $200 ... and all the "trimmin's" went to the scrap yard at $12.50 per hundred pounds.

I don't count the belts, hoses, shocks, front boots and seals, top, bed crane and etc ... if I kept it full sized I would have done those things as modifications and maintenance.

I've put at least 5 to 6,000 miles on it since I bobbed it ... most of that has been on about 80% WMO. Anytime I leave the house ... Henry is what I drive.

This here bobbed Deuce ain't nothing but a big ol' ECONOMY car!!!

well I went a bit further. cab off resto. New paint under with under coating, donor truck for front axle set and right side gasser fender so there is no hole, custom exhaust with flowmaster, custom bed and canopy, custom interior with heated leather, custom wheels/tires, duel fuel tanks, LED lights all around, custom gauge cluster......... ya it adds up.

I have had four deuces, 3 - M-35A2s and a 109. I bobbed one of them a few years ago. It drove nice on the street and off road, it had a shorter turning radius which was nice in the woods and parking lots. It accelerated quicker and looked cool.

I sold it six months later and have not missed it. It was still a big pig off road and I enjoy driving Jeeps off road more. I still have two stock M-35-A2s and use them to cruise around, haul scrap, wood, building materials and hay. Stock they are great and for my purposes more useful than the bobbed deuce.

This is something I have considered long and hard. But I have decided the 12 foot bed is way too useful fo rme to cut up. Now, I am going back and fourth on losing one of the rear axles instead.

By any chance would you have or can you get photographs? I wonder how it does with out the drag of a second drive axle but with the drag of 53's. I also wonder what kind of highway speeds it can achaive with reasonable RPM's.

I actually just drove by to get a picture and it was moved, which is scary because the moron that built it used lift blocks front and rear to clear the 53's. It looks good but is in front of a gym as part of an advertisement. I didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to drive it on the street. Guess I was wrong. :sad:

Miine when its done is supposed to have a cut down dropside bed which was removed from another deuce I had.
But
Things might change again by then ????

After a lot of thinking I decided not to shorten my bed yet. here are pics of how it looks with 46" tires. only have about 200 miles on it so far but those have been fun. haven't carried much weight with it yet about 4000lb but it handled that with ease. so far i would not go back.

That's a good looking truck. Very nice stance. It's different, and different is good when it looks like that.

What kind of difference do you see at highway speeds? How are the RPM's? Has the around town driving improved?

I run the 395's (46") on my deuce and driving 55mph the rpm's are around 2000. Turning the pump up a little bit made driving around town so much better. I've put over 4000 mile on mine with the 395's.
