    Leaking Head Gasket

The truck starts easily as usual and sounds fine running. Does not seem to be burning coolant as I don't see white smoke. Upper radiator hose, which was replaced last year when all hoses were replaced with the radiator, gets hard like it is inflated. No visible leaks other than wetness from...

    Leaking Head Gasket

Did a pressure test on the coolant system yesterday with a friend and charged the system to 15psi. It held for a short time and then I started the truck. At idle psi slowly climbed to about 22 in a matter of 3-4 minutes. I am no mechanic, but everything I read points to compression leaking...

    Leaking Head Gasket

After much deliberation and soul searching I have decided to not tackle my head gasket repair but instead sell my first and only M1028 and M101a2 trlr. It will be listed on SS classifieds tomorrow after I upgrade my membership. I wish I could keep them but it is time to move on and give them a...

    Leaking Head Gasket

Am I understanding that is per head? Is this a do in pairs kind of job?

    Leaking Head Gasket

A few weeks ago I noticed a little wetness on the fuel pump but couldn't really tell where it was coming from. No puddles so I figured maybe a valve cover gasket leak and put that job on my to do list for spring. Then I started noticing small coolant puddles under the recovery bottle area...

Power steering line part number ???

Ditto; I replaced all four lines for the brake/ steering system and got the hoses at Oreilly's. Pretty inexpensive too.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Spent my birthday with my father tearing into the front end of my 1028. Would start a death wobble when braking from 55 for a stop light with an instant on/off yellow. Noticed the brakes had a little pulse like they were warped; which would initiate the wobble. Had the rotors turned and thought...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Noticed a rattle coming from the idling engine at the fuel station on Sunday. Thought the power steering pump line was vibrating on the mounting bracket, but discovered to my amazement that the three bolts holding the pump to the bracket were missing. Two were completely gone and the third was...

    CUCV Cold Weather Start Experince

Scottladdy, I wanted to explain why I cycle my glow plugs the way I described earlier. When I bought my 1028, it only had the manual glow plug button. When I turn the key on I have no wait light or controller telling me when to start the truck. This being my first cucv, I am at the mercy of...

    CUCV Cold Weather Start Experince

It was -16F for the past two days here and my 1028 is starting fine. I plug in the block heater and have added additive to the fuel to prevent gelling. The truck sits outside all the time so when starting I hold the manual glow button in for 10sec, release for three and hold again for 10sec. It...

M1009 - Stripping it down to "bedline" the entire truck, inside and out

Had some Jeep fenders lineX'd and they turned out great. The shop told me the product in the bolt holes actually works like thread locker. It won't hurt anything as long as it doesn't fill the holes. I am tempted to do my 1028 inside and bed. Post pics when you can of your project and the progress.

    Block Heater Install

I installed a Zerostart block heater in my 87 1028 earlier this fall and all in all it went off without a hitch. I had never done one before and was reluctant to knock out the plug, but knew it needed to be done. I mounted mine with the element pointed up, but apparently it can be in either...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Very productive week for me and the 1028. Started with a block heater. Very messy but no leaks and will definately help this winter here in Wisconsin. Then tackled rubber brake lines, calipers, and pads. Bled the system; no more pulling to the right. Replaced the fuel filter, CDR valve...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Checked brakes and bled system on the M101A2 today. Went surprisingly well. The old fluid looked really bad, but not as bad as the M1028. This was my first bleed and wanted to start on the trailer to learn. Also executed some ideas for the truck to see if they would work. I think they turned out...

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

Did mine today after a friend called me on Wed frantically asking how to stop his starter from running. I knew right a way from reading here what was happening, but couldn't do anything to help him. It is still in the shop getting a new starter, relay, and repairing wiring. It costs me $16.50...
