With the 700r4 all you need is a 24v-12v converter to give it power. The lockup solenoid is in the trans iirc.

700r4 12v source I just picked up one of the bowtie overdrive kits myself. Where are you getting your 12v for the brake light unlock switch. Thanks Josh

Switch headlights side to side to see if it's the light or some other electrical issue. That will rule out the light.
