    Recent MEP 802A report

Hey guys, I am real sorry to here about the condition of these gennys. I was excited to bid on these but got stuck out at work and missed the auction. Would any of you knowing now what is involved wit these stick with the old 002's? FWIW on people concerned about operating conditions and engine...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

. I refer to it idling when one cylinder cuts out: the unit, even with wide open throttle when on one cylinder, she only runs between 1000-1200 RPM.

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Hey guys, I must apologize, I made two mistakes initially troubleshooting the problems. I worked some more on it this weekend: adjusted the valves (not too far off from tolerances) and installed a fuel pressure gauge. I also played with the cut-off solenoid. I realized that the solenoid is not...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Yes, I found the markings. The "A" was very hard to find and I passed it quite a few times before realizing it. I've been spinning it clockwise as well. So, #2 is closest to the genny head-I had that backwards, thanks! I will recheck them this weekend.

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

I haven't gotten a compression check done yet however I feel you guys are dead on about the low compression. I pulled the glow plug out of what I suspect is #2 and it was badly corroded although #1's looked brand new. I decided to check the valve adjustment before checking the electrics and...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Thank you gentlemen for the helpful responses. I would like to verify a few things with you guys to make sure I fully understand the system. I ran my other 002 last night to see how the fuel cutoff solenoid operates. Fully down and it shuts off the pump, fully up is wide open throttle. It seems...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Ok, I ended up making a more permanent new tank for it, checked all the connections, flushed the fuel and added some Diesel Kleen, and re-bled it. Oil was good but it is on the front of a M103 trailer and the low oil cutoff is rotated higher than usual when attached to my truck so I jacked it up...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Thanks for the quick reply. I've cleaned out the screen. It is a possibility that there could be air in the hoses but they seem to be in decent shape. I've bypassed the original tank and am just using a fuel can in the meantime. I found the filter housings to be clean when I replaced the filter...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

My 002 I can only get running for about 30-45 seconds at a clip. Sometimes it fires right off, but normally it seems to start in a idle state (~1200 RPMs) even with WOT for about 3 very long seconds before she comes to life. I did get it running last night for 6 minutes straight. Every time it...

    MEP-003A hook up question

Ok, following all these posts, I believe if I am using my generator with a temporary power distribution box (not connected to the house at all), I would ground the generator using the split-bolt connector on the frame under the control panel. Since L0 is grounded inside the generator chassis, I...

Reuse MEP-002A torn intake gasket with sealant?

That, my friend, is an awesome piece of advice. I wish I had known about that earlier. I took apart the manifold this morning and redid it using a thin amount smeared over it this time. The Hylomar is great stuff. Very easy to work with including taking it off and worth it's weight in gold...

Reuse MEP-002A torn intake gasket with sealant?

I appreciate the help guys. My local autoparts store didn't have any generic gasket so I just used the sealant. I have to say I liked Hylomar and it worked really well. Unfortunately my pesky oil leak returned (in a different spot) so I will get to rip her apart again and test the Hylomar and...

Reuse MEP-002A torn intake gasket with sealant?

Last night, while to replace a broken oil fitting, I had to take the intake manifold off. The gasket ripped right down the middle with one half stuck on the engine, and the other on the manifold. I picked up some Permatex Hylomar univ. blue racing formula gasket dressing and flange sealant. It...

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

I've looked through the manual and see the double delta connection but no mention of this. I've also never owned a generator with the ability to reconfigure the wiring nor am I familiar with how the military connects these particular units. Do you run a separate cable from your neutral down to...

    Connecting MEP to house

How much did that run you? Which brand did you use?
