I picked up the lock cylinder at NAPA for around $20. I then took the door locks down a locksmith I know and had the door cylinders re-keyed to match the new ignition for $15 each. Total job cost about $50.
I didn't bother with the tailgate since there isn't actually a lock cylinder in the...
I installed Sylvania Silverstars in January and tested brightness before and after with a LUX-meter (measures brightness).
What I measured was 480lux on the standard Halogen bulbs and 650lux on the Silverstars. This was a true 35% increase in brightness.
They may have a slightly shorter...
Replacing the ignition tumbler isn't difficult, but it does require pulling the steering wheel. I replaced mine to ensure that one of my next door neighbors couldn't buy a key on EBAY and go joy-riding.
1. Pull steering wheel
2. Pull the dust cover and lock plate (the retaining ring can be a...
I thought about this, but I hate leaving an idiot light there that doesn't function anymore.
One thought I had was to try pulling out the idiot light and find a gauge that would fit into that hole. I'm just weird about leaving stuff installed but not hooked up.
My other possibility is to...
Has anyone modified the "T" block for the Oil Sampling Valve to mount an oil pressure sender?
What I'm thinking about is scrapping the whole pipe and sampling valve and having the square "T" block (the part that's actually mounted in the oil cooler line) drilled and tapped to accept the...
Sorry for being so late posting this resolution.
Basically, some nimrod had installed a wire splicer between the left taillight wire and the left-front turn signal wire.
My guess is that the turn-signal switch failed and the front-left no longer functioned. Rather than pull the wheel and...
Did you swap the whole 6.5TD engine, or were you able to get the turbo to fit the 6.2L engine? I'm interested in eventually doing a turbo install, but don't really want to pull 6.2 out if its not necessary.
Did the crank come chrome or black? I've looked at their catalog but it doesn't seem to say.
I also called my local Chevy dealer and found out that the window crank is still available as a special order part. It costs a bit more ($60) but I like the idea of an OEM replacement versus...
Bone stock M1009 (3.08 gears / 31" tires / 3600 RPM Redline):
55 MPH - 1940 RPM
65 MPH - 2293 RPM
75 MPH - 2645 RPM
I wouldn't recommend more than about 65 MPH if you are looking for engine longevity.
The "sweet spot" for the 6.2L is about 1900 RPM (about 55MPH in a stock M1009). 2645 RPM...
I find the same thing true with shifting into 4LO in my M1009. I usually just put tranny in Park and then give that thing a yank back into 4LO.
I know that Neutral position on transmission should also let it go to 4LO, but mine seems to like Park better....go figure. 2cents
Try lifting off the throttle a little bit at around 35 and see if it makes it shift.
If I have steady "medium" throttle applied to my M1009 it will shift to 2nd at about 25mph and into 3rd at about 42-43mph.
If I lift off throttle at around 35 it will kick up to 3rd, then I just put my...
Looks pretty good.
On a different subject, do you find that the CB radio mounted under the dash right there is in the way of the gas pedal / interferes with your leg at all?
I'm also looking for a CB location and had considered this, but haven't made up my mind yet.
