Class E in GA still a viable option?

So this is essentially confirming my issue with the class E correct? That it is only for people like emergency responders and ACTUAL military? Either way I'm going to avoid this all by getting an LMTV to keep under the 26k lbs GVWR. Now i just need to find in this forum a place yo read up on...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

I did not and that's a good question. I couldn't even fake having a farm where I live. All though farm may also have some distance restrictions but I'm not sure. Being that I would get an LMTV that's the route I'm going to go so I gave up on the CDL matter once I realized that.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

This is now called a class E and F in GA and after calling the DMV and by the documents own admission is not applicable to me or anyone else that wants to just own a retired military vehicle. It must be for farm use, emergency use, or military use. If you were able to get it by saying I'm...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

All I'd ever "trailer" with it would be an open car hauler trailer with my single 3k lb car on it so I should actually be good to go as long as I pick up an LMTV. Hmm this may actually work after all. I really don't need an MTV for my application and in fact would be more headache than anything.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

So what you're saying is pick up a LMTV which is a GVWR under 26K lbs and go for it. After all it is under 26k lbs total so should be okay. I guess the only question is if GA requires the CDL anyway because if air brakes.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

After speaking with the DMV the class E is a no go. It's either CDL or nothing (I'm not willing to deal with out of state LLC situation). So I guess if I wanna get one of these it's gonna have to be a CDL. That's unfortunate...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

Appreciate the no bs attitude. It is what it is and if I'm going to do this may just have to go that route.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

Anyone know the best entitiy to contact? While the DMV may be my best bet to get answers to the class E question but is their a DOT type office I could call in the state of GA to discuss CDL requirements or the lack of needing one if I have them all the information of the truck and my scenario?

Class E in GA still a viable option?

That's my suspicion, and from what you're saying it sort of confirms it in my eyes. I belive the class E is for active military personally but maybe I'm mistaken. I'll call the DMV tomorrow and see what they say. Again though I don't see needing a CDL regardless because it isn't commercial use.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

Grief? In what context? They didn't wanna let you test for it? The way it's worded like I said above a few post it seemed as if it was only allowed for the few categories. My worry was even if I got it I thought if I was pulled over they'd say "idk how you got a class E that doesn't cover you...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

That's one reason I wanna go the class E route. Don't need a medical (I'd pass just don't wanna have to keep up with that stuff for what I'm using thr truck for) and no need to do the driving portion. I also haven't dived into the insurance portion but I suppose I need to do that as well. Anyone...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

So essentially what y'all are saying is one way or the other I should not let this keep me from getting one and using it as I stated. As there are multiple ways to make it happen. Interesting, I had wrote this all off a couple years ago because of the response I got back from a company who sells...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

After reading a bit on that website it states military vehicles will get a UTAH plate. I might have to give them a call. I'm curious how all that works. So would I then need to follow UTAHs laws? Does Utah only require a standard license? Hmm may have to call them that's really interesting. I'm...

Class E in GA still a viable option?

I'll try and look into doing it as an RV but so far from searching that route is quite difficult to do in GA. A lot of horror stories from people converting busses to RVs and the tag office not wanting to let them register it as an RV.

Class E in GA still a viable option?

I was told by a class A license holder I work with its gotten a lot harder and more expensive to get a CDL these days. I also don't want the expense of commercial insurance and keeping up with a medical card for a truck that will sit around a lot and used a couple times a month.
