This is a good post. Goes to show you don't have to maintain everything exactly as originally designed. And in fact, this is a huge improvement over the PITA location for the water separator. Whoever engineered that location, and even worse the location of the fittings should be beaten with...
Low and behold, I found a NAPA store and they made up some new hoses for me in a jiffy. I really had never even paid attention enough to know they were there. They used a lower pressure rated hose than the original steel braided 3,000 PSI stuff. Thanks for the tip!!! And I will be going back...
Hello all, I need to replace a couple leaking fuel supply hoses that go from the tank pickup to the fuel pump, and from the water separator to the fuel filter. I am having trouble finding someone who can make replacement hoses with the JIC fittings. Has anyone replace these hoses with...
Unfortunately, those bolts shearing off is usually the result of something else bad happening. I have seen both an 802 and and 803 now where a connecting rod end came off and caused the engine to seize, resulting in those bolts shearing off due to the massive force from the sudden stop. You...
How did you mount the wheels under the 803a? Are those on a frame (wood or other) that the 803 skid sits on? Just looking for ideas. Also, super jealous of your load bank. Thanks!
Looking for DN4M engine for replacement in a MEP 803a. Upper Midwest or Great Lakes region preferred as I am in Michigan. Does not need to be complete or running. Mainly need a block, but would also prefer one with a good crankshaft.
You pretty much hit it on the head. Upon further investigation today, I have determined that the broken rod has done damage to the cylinder and also the portion of the block along side the tappet for the injector pump. Given this, the god-awful amount of sludge, and the potential damage to the...
A friend of mine has a MEP 803a that was used for an off grid recreational planting farm (legal here in Michigan). It has 6800 hours and stopped running one night. I brought it into my shop to take a look and have found a broken connecting rod. But the bigger problem is sludge, and lots of it...
Just curious, how did you move that thing into your back yard? I am trying to do something similar and I am stumped on how to get it there without it being a major pain. Looking for ideas. Thanks!
Or you could be lucky like me, and go to drain the tank and have it pop out in your hands. Then you have diesel spilling all over the trailer and down the driveway. And then nasty looks from the neighbors walking by while you are trying to prevent an environmental nightmare. True story.
Yup, you have to take the whole thing apart. I would recommend getting a multimeter and checking to make sure all the windings and diodes are properly functional before you put it all back together. Unless of course you know the generator was working before you needed to do the engine swap...
You need to pull the large plate in your bottom picture with the rotor bearing in the center off. Once this is removed, the stator can be slid off carefully away from the adaptor plate and away from around the rotor. The rotor will remain bolted to the flywheel. Once you have the stator...
So I have a MEP 802a that I have been rebuilding and was working on getting it started tonight. Turned the main switch to the heaters and a massive short occurred. Burnt up wires 109C from the starter to the K18 relay and 116C from the K18 relay to the heater plugs. Crispy, and lots of smoke...
