Let me make the clearest indication that I have a problem.
The truck is on blocks and the wheels can spin freely.
If I put it in gear WITHOUT pushing the brake, it goes in gear -- with a thud -- and the wheels spin in the air.
However, if I push on brake and then put the truck in gear, the...
Regarding questions about ABS: I will fix the ABS, and most likely, it is the ABS controller that causes ABS light, which I just purchased.
But, I thought that an automatic transmission should NEVER stall the engine, no matter what. Is that correct?
Can I somehow altogether disable the torque...
I have an M923A2 truck that I am working on. (it sat around for a few years)
Right now, I have it on blocks so that wheels can spin freely.
It has the following problem (among some unrelated issues):
1) I can put it in gear, and accelerate. (remember, it is on blocks so the truck does not...
Is that a normally open or closed switch? I messed with it 7 years ago and it is not there any more, but the wires are still there so I can close or open the connection.
An update: I have the truck on blocks right now. So I can play with the transmission without the truck actually moving.
After messing around with the transfer case low/high lever, the problem seems to have been resolved: I put it in gear without excessive shaking, and I can switch from forward...
I have an M923A2 truck. It used to drive fine. At some point, it developed a problem: if I put it in gear from neutral, the engine would die.
It is as if it goes to being rigidly locked in gear without properly utilizing the torque converter.
If I lift the truck and put it on blocks so the...
FLoridianson, I have a feeling that you are on the right track. Can you explain me where approximately that lock up solenoid is on top of the trans?
That solenoid malfunctioning would provide a good explanation.
Thanks!

I posted another thread previously "M923a2 dies when put in gear".
Well, since then I changed both fuel filters and it does NOT die when I put it in gear, especially if I push the gas pedal a bit. It does drive.
However, the truck dies every time when I stop it with brakes. It is as if...
I believe that the filter contamination reported here, is due to fuel tanks lined with material that softens and dissolves in diesel fuel. I know that it sounds too stupid to be believable.
OK, more good news:
I replaced the fuel filter on the engine. The filter that I took out, was DISGUSTING and full of filth and grime.
I have NOT yet replaced the big filter cartridge on the fender.
After having done so, the engine has noticeably more power. I can rev it in neutral and it is...
