Yes, got the Baldor Reliance 5-56-1 from the big online retailer. Made in Fort Smith.

After the fact, I checked Garage Journal, and there were complaints of noise and short motor life. I can say that inside, in an enclosed garage, the motor was very loud, a little quieter than a chainsaw, for years.

Thanks for the counsel. You are right, but I do use the compressor frequently (twice a month?) but not for long durations. I was not at generator while all the fun was happening. It was running around 25% when I left it to turn on compressor, so I cannot say that it bogged or not. but I do think...

It was a loud motor from new, sounded normal for about 10-15 seconds, then "abby-normal" I think it was.... In any case, all seemed OK in prior use.

Great point. Will check by hand once I have motor and belt guard out of the way - that occurred to me as well, but needed motor anyway....

Have not been able to find any info on the motor, any info presumably lost through Reliance and ABB acquisitions of the once great Baldor. That is not to say it is not available, it is to say that I cannot get anything out of archive.org. It used to be a reasonable resource, maybe still is, but...
