yeah, i went thru all 8 of them. .cleaned them up, tested them, put 'em back in..
i think I've got the military glow plug module fixed.. it's just a matter of finding time when the weather isn't frigid cold and/or I can actully get the truck inside the shop!
i'm scratching my head here just a bit.. glow plug removal tool?
the m1009 I work on.. the glow plugs had a hex on their body, and used a flat-blade type push on terminal.. so I just slipped a deep well socket down over the gp and they came right out... perhaps I was just lucky? (I had two...
We have a m1009.. 3rd or 4th hand by now.. military sold it to a police dept.. they sold it to a private buyer (who REALLLY FSCK'd the poor thing up)
anyway.. starter has always been noisey when it cranked.. now it just grinds and won't spin the engine over... which leaves us possibly looking...
Can someone describe the black out drive system? I read the TM on how it works.. but I don't understand exactly what it DOES
obviously, one switch turns off all the external lights on the truck, and even the internal ones.
but what the black out drive lights and markers exactly?
I'm not...
Why not just use a bright LED mounted in the dash? Problaby less annoying then a beeper and definately less current!
you need to check the specs on the LED to make sure it's ok for 18v.. then check it's max forward current.. the pick a resistor based on ohms law... R = V / I to limit current...
ida34: i haven't been inside the dash of this truck yet, but there is a break in the wire from the relay back to the bulkhead connector and ultimately to the starter.. is this a common problem with these trucks? (and maybe somewhere specific I should look first?) anything is possible with what...
Thanks for the info on the stuck relay.. I know the relay was there.. all 3 of us sort of went into a mild panic when the wiring started smoking lol. the boss was standing there panicing while I ran for wrenches for the batteries and his son ran for a fire extingisher..
we now have quick...
What is the value of said resistor?
and where at in flint, mi? :)
I know at a resistor is btw.. i just ASSUMED it was a diode based on where and how it was connected.. but since it's totally burned away, it's difficult to tell what it was..
please snap that pic if you would.. you can...
alright.. thank for the tip.. with as badly as this vehicle has been hacked up.. I try not to assume anything about any part of it!
we tried to start it the other day, and the starter would not stop cranking even after i let go of the key.. we disconnected the front battery.. and the starter...
First of all, can you guys tell me for sure if this is a military or civilian unit by looking at it?
2nd of all, it was fried by the dumbA$$ that had the truck before us by hooking the glow plug 'trigger' wire to the 12v junction post NEXT To the glow plug relay instead of the relay.. I'm...
