An update... Found a used CTIS controller on ebay for $288.00 and bought it. It was a direct replacement for that OEM unit that had failed. Plugged the new one in, drove around for about 20 minutes, then tested all the terrain settings. Worked great. Thanks again for steering me in the right...
Ronmar, I'm pretty sure it's a WTEC 2 controller, because it has the two displays vs. the single display. (Let me know if I got that backward)
General, I agree. Carrying a spare is definitely something I want to do. I found some identical 260 amp alternators online (new), so I know they're...
Yeah, I was wondering about the fit. Our shop can fab brackets as needed, so think I'll stick with the 28 volt, 260 amp unit as RFT recommended. Ronmar... our M1083 is a '98, so if I understand your post correctly (I can be a bit slow) I'm now assuming that everything will work on 24 volts -...
Our M1083 has an OEM dual voltage 100 amp alternator, which seems to work fine. However, when we bought the truck, we also bought a new C.E. Niehoff 260 amp alternator, because our plan is to install a 12 or 24 volt roof AC unit on the cab, and I think the factory 100 amp alternator wouldn't be...
Our M1083 has the typical four-battery setup, with 12 and 24 volt circuits. I've noticed that many people have switched to two batteries instead of four. I'd like to switch to two larger batteries, and then move them a short distance to help with outside storage. Any issues/problems when you do...
I know I'm going to have to provide access to the transmission's mounting bolts once the habitat is installed, and I think I've figured out how to do that, but as I was looking at it, I was wondering how the transmission is removed. (God forbid) Can it be removed from underneath, or does the...
I'll then I'll go with 36. That helps a lot. Clearly I'll want to install the Eco Hubs before trying to get a cruise control to play nicely with the transmission's output. Thanks Ronmar. BIG help.
Kevin
Wow! That would be great. Thank you. BTW, I really enjoyed your youtube video about manual tire inflation. I've got a used CTIS controller coming my way to replace the dead one that came with our rig, but it's the last one I'm going to buy. If it fails, I will be going manual. Thanks again.
Kevin
We're building up our 1998 M1083, and plan to use a spring-return subframe with a composite box. I was watching a youtube video recently, where a couple stopped and parked their Unimog in high winds. (The Unimog also had a spring-return subframe) The winds were so strong that you could see the...
Thanks Ronmar... I think I'm with you after reading your post several times. :) I've learned that many cruise control systems use pulse per mile inputs to determine speed but, so far, I'm finding it difficult to find info on the pulse per mile output from the transmission or speedo. I'm sure its...
Our 1998 M1083 is a pre-ECU version. I would like to install an aftermarket cruise control. Has anyone done this on a pre-ECU LMTV/FMTV? The mechanical installation looks pretty straightforward, but I'm most concerned about how to get speed info to the cruise control's brains. A couple of...
