I did a genset motor swap this week and it was very easy. It did take a little longer because I sand blasted all the ducting and what ever else needed cleaned up and repainted. These are the things needing changed; oil pan/windage tray,gear cover,bell housing,oil lines,flywheel,belt pulley,drain...
It'll only throw you if the timing is off. I have an old 1930 Caterpillar 60 (4cyl 1200cu in.) and it fires right up with a 2' long bar in the flywheel. Of course the compression cocks need opened.
