    Seat Belt Problem

Nevermind! I removed "M1078" and "FMTV" and just googled "seat belt won't extend" Up popped a Youtube video .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NziLDgTG7Uc Pretty simple fix ....

    Seat Belt Problem

Please don't flame me if this has been discussed before! I really have tried to search for a remedy (i.e.: TM's, Forums, Google Machine, etc.) .... Here is my problem ... When I removed the interior of my 1997 M1078, I removed the seat belt mechanism for the passenger seat. Unfortunately...

    Starting camper build tomorrow

Frame extension .... I had steel fabricated that matched the upper and lower rails. I also had pieces fabricated to go inside each rail. Put this all together and welded the **** of it. Since it was the same profile as the old frame ... the light bars and rear cross plate were easy to fit...

    Starting camper build tomorrow

I sense a trend .... Just ordered a batch of aluminum square tubing for my little M1078 project. Finished the frame extension and stake bed .... Now comes the camper box that will lift on and off .... I sense a great many of us are anxious to get out of the house and hit the road (or...

    M1078 Cold Starting & Ether?

Timely thread .... tried to replace the ether can this weekend. Unfortunately it was probably the original from the factory and I had to take the entire unit out. Still haven't been able to un-tread the bottle from the top of the little electric pump. Then there is the little tube going...

    M1078 being useful ....

One of our big fork lifts at work wandered off and got stuck. Everything we tried came up short ... including hooking two F450 4x4's to the old girl. Purportedly this forklift weighs in at around 21,000lbs. That was when I figured I might as well bring in the M1078 and see if that could get...

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

Just realized ... adding in the third tank you can head up the coast to San Francisco on the same fill up!

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

Pretty cool to have over 1200 mile range! San Antonio to San Diego on one fill up! Surf's up! I haven't been able to find the M1078 tank (16" height) that would work for my space ... but I will keep looking. Let me know if you get rid of yours ...

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

Wow! That is exactly the path we are on. Did you build the camper box? That is a great shot! (Is that from somewhere in Baja? .... Before we left California we used to make annual trips south of the border. Sure miss it!) Finally finished the frame extension/new fenders project Next...

    Removing the bed ?

I just pulled mine off ... it is really pretty simple. You have eight or ten "Huck Bolts" (see earlier thread) that need to be cut away. From there it is just removing the straps from the fenders and the tail light boxes and remove the small switch mounted on the front edge of the box...

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

Duckworthe ... thanks for that post. Unfortunately I am in the process of mounting some fenders for the rear wheels using a fab'd 3" x 4" sq. beam that mounts just aft of the forward leaf spring hanger. (see photo) So unfortunately the whole second tank will need to fit between the hanger and...

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

I am not worried about maintaining the "self sealing" quality ... just wasn't sure if the coating would make tig welding it back together a problem . Thanks for the M931 tip ... I will look them up.

    M1078 Fuel Tanks

Has anyone had any experience with the standard "self sealing" fuel tanks on the M1078? Specifically what I am looking to do is mount an auxiliary tank in the area just aft of the regular tank placement. The problem of course is that there is only 3ft of available space along the frame. My...

    Hydraulics Question

    That's a great idea .... thanks!

    Hydraulics Question

After doing some research and re-thinking my box design, I am thinking I might try and fabricate something like this .... definitely will take a couple of cylinders ... but eliminates the chain/cable drive component.
