Threatened fail on state inspection no cats

Here in Alaska there is no state emission testing but there was in Anchorage until just a year or so ago. When they got rid of it they didn't require you to get tested anymore, but they took the price of the testing and added it onto the cost of renewing your registration. What a racket, they...

M1009 Won't start in 20 degrees and under

Did they load test the batteries? I'd say either your batteries or your glowplugs are bad. With mine plugged in at 0 degrees I only had to apply right around 2 seconds of power to the plugs, turned off almost immediately. When it was -15 earlier in the week it was about 7 seconds when plugged...

I'm having a problem with new Doghead Relay

I had the exact same thing happen to me, I had the new upgraded relay in for 8 months or so and one day had symptoms exactly as you described. Crawled under the dash looking for anything looking out of place and sure enough had a broken connector on the relay. Hopefully you can track it down easy.

    CUCV Locking Fuel Cap

I would definitely be interested in getting a locking cap, even if I had to send mine in to be somehow converted. Most of the time my truck doesn't move so I could just cover it with cardboard or something to keep the dust out. I use the high flow diesel when I'm in Talkeetna going to Fairbanks...

4-Wheel Off-Road Magazine Dec 2013 issue, write up on replacing motor with big block

It's funny how he says after installing the new engine "It's got more power, it's not as fast as that Cadillac CTS-V but thats ok! Its a truck!" So what was the point of that whole procedure then? I would have done a turbo 6.2 or swapped in a turbo 6.5 and called it a day for a fraction of the...

    Wndshield Washer Performance?

Yes you have to pull the pink and white wires out of their little block and leave the other wires where they are.

    Wndshield Washer Performance?

I did the universal pump from Napa. Took 5 minutes, cost $23, and has worked for a year and a half now just great. Mount the pump, take the wires off the original pump, stick them on the new pump, put the tubing on the appropriate ends and you're good to go. Very good work-around for an...

    Humvee tires and snow?

I have a set of those tires pictured just above^ studded they work alright on a 2wd pickup.

    Humvee tires and snow?

100-150 inches is a LOT of snow. When we had our record snow year here in Anchorage it was 139 inches and that was a lot of snow, it snowed all the time. You do need as skinny of a tire as you can if you want maximum traction. I do recommend having some type of snow tire if you're not used to...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

My setup from an American company out of Georgia, theretrofitsource. Good people, solid warranty, great customer service. I had a generic 35w kit in the projectors originally and it burned out quick, so I went for the highest quality I could find. I also run 4300K for output reasons. I tried...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

I have 55w HID's through a set of projectors in my truck rated at 4500 Lumens I believe? I can't remember what they were rated at exactly but the output is extremely impressive especially since the projectors provide for high/low beams and focus the light where you need it. A 500W LED light...

    M1009 Help

I just read the entirety of this thread. I wish you luck on your endeavors. When I was your age my brother had a really sweet low mile '72 Riviera that people always drooled over but I didn't have a car. So I started searching fields when I turned 16 and eventually found a nice '66 Fury 3...

Still sluggish starting in the cold....

My truck sat the last two and a half weeks outside not plugged in and fired up after one cycle of the glow plugs. When I'm in Fairbanks and it's -40 out and I have it plugged in I can still get it started but it takes some finangling for sure. Down to about -10 and plugged in the glow plug...

    Frustrating wiper fluid pump

I bought a universal washer pump from NAPA. Was $16 just hook the two original wires up to it so it still pumps with the switch, took 7 minutes to install and was super easy and straight forward. If you can get the the newer version washer pump setup cheaper I'd go that route but if you can't...

CUCV as my daily vehicle? or bad idea?

I have daily driven vehicles much older and much more mechanically unreliable than a CUCV. It's just how much do you potentially want to have to work on it in parking lots and such? My M1009 has given me pretty much no problems though, nothing that has left me high and dry. I'd say go for it.
