Hey I'm somewhat in the middle of your route and would be willing to lend a hand.
M54 sitting here, not the best highway rig but has been known to move the occasional heavy item :-)
Idunno, I have two M332s and haven't used them in 10+ years. Relatively small box, limited hauling capacity (unless you are hauling lead).
The 105 would be my choice too.
Yes you can tow with no air.... Although without air you will have no trailer brakes - assuming they'd even work.
Same lunette / pintle.
You should be good to go.
17 digit VINs were not required before ~1978 or so....
What happens if you bought a 55 chevy with a shorter vin ? would they not title it, or force you to get a state-assigned 17-digit VIN?
RE: M54A1C
Back in 98/99 when I was shopping for some surpluss green iron, I remeber seeing a LOT of trucks available in tan.
I think my M54 has a 1987 rebuild date as well.
Install some batteries that fit the box,
new wiper blades and try and rejuvenate one wiper motor,
rotate the tires and put two decent ones up front,
keep an eye out for super single rims,
and drive the truck in a massive blizzard !!
If you buy from GL, there is no guarantee the trucks will be road-ready. If they are said to "run" it means the engine will run. May not start on it's own, may not have brakes, may lose fluid etc.... Plan on a thorough inspection before hitting the road, and plan on travelling with a pretty...
I was looking through the pics and said "wow, cupholders". D'OH !!
At least you can easily inspect the e-brake :-)
Up here, non-runners get moved on bucket loaders. The shackles remain, but the glad hands don't always survive.
Any bolt that is in shear is not properly torqued. A properly torqued botl is ONLY in tension. That tension provides clamping between two surfaces, and then it's friction between those surfaces.
There is no difference in bolt loading if the hitch is over or under the frame (assuming the bolts...
Hey guys.
Just got this baby from the GL lot yesterday morning. It came without any fluids or filters, so it took some legwork to source the required parts. 500 hours on it.
She fired up today once I bypassed the stop solenoid. No real issues, and the generator works too. Onan 6kW diesel...
Managed to complete the pickup today without much hassle. Took nearly an hour to get on base, then just a few minutes to load up and haul out. No issues, and the GL staffer was really helpful too.
I'll try and get the trailer registered tomorrow - with no SF97. [thumbzup]
It was actually in the scrapyard of the base, not the DRMO staging area, so maybe it was prepped for the crusher - all fuids out. I'll have to check the fuel tank to see if that holds true.
Edit - yup, no oils anywhere. The fuel tank was drained, and so was the crankcase of the oil compressor...
