Our 6X truck is our villages main search and rescue vehicle on our frontier road up here in interior Alaska. The alternator seized and broke the pulley and belt. Got an alternator coming from Southern Automotive in Michigan but the pulley and belt are a no find up here at the CAT dealer and...
Thanks for the tips on tranny fluid etc. Will be putting heaters all over it for winter use as we get 30 to 50 below up here. On my CUCV which I can start at 25 below just with glow plugs if I have to, I got block, tranny and engine pan pads, and 24 volt battery trickle for colder times. Be...
For what it'll be used for a large track vehicle would be better as the drifting on the road gets very deep. I figure 6 chained up drive tires will get through anything a truck can get struck in as long as the drifting is not to active. Also we can't use the road till the Yukon river gets thick...
As usual Steel Soldiers members are a wealth of knowledge and got a bunch of ideas and TM's to help troubleshoot the winch. I'll definitely update this post on the end results. I got access to a number of 5 tons and 2 - 2 1/2 tons (owned by the City of Tanana). Was using a 5 ton for a winter...
Trying to turn a nice (5000+ miles) M35A3C with winch into a dependable search and rescue vehicle for our winter ice road into the village.
Working on the winch now which I was told did work but does not now. Downloaded some TM's and got two more coming from eBay but could use someone to help...
37 below official airport temp this morning and CUCV started right up plugged in with just a oil pan heater and 24 volt trickle charge all night. Not pretty sounding but been doing it for years now in winters.
Up here the answer to fuel gelling is to use no 1 fuel oil. It's in all the outside home heating oil tanks and all the diesel trucks and heavy equipment here runs on the exact same stuff. We had 76 below official (without wind chill factor ) one year and regularly see 40 - 50 below each winter...
Reading your comment made me think of how traction bars would maybe work and I realized that the thick spring pack I have on there even though massively strong puts the axle over 5 inches below the level of where the springs are mounted to the frame. This is way more than most trucks. I have 9...
Had a M1031 for years now. Converted to a pickup but the rear spring pack is incredibly thick (info says it's almost a 2 ton pack because it's made to support the maintenance cab that it came with). So weak rear springs should not be an issue???
Anyway any time I get in snow that causes any...
