The one I found is at an auction near Spokane wa at a volunteer fire dept in Odessa
the picture on the auction site was not clear so I had them send me some better ones. Unfortunately the conversion is very crude. I was hoping for that mythical unicorn.
I found a long wheelbase 48 cj2a not far from where I live and was told it was factory. How rare is this and how do I tell if it is indeed factory or just someones creation. It looks like
The image beliw without the top or racks. It is supposed to run and drive and from pics looks fairly...
So if 230hp is not enough power to use the .65 OD in a motor home it probably won't be enough in a loaded m1079 if the final drive gears were changed from 3.9 to 3.55 or 3.07.
If that is the case Has anyone turned the mechanical injection pump up to see how much it helps with a gear swap...
I found this useful as well

also anyone know what the 4700 series trans is used in? If it is the same housing maybe 7th gear could be swapped out for a higher od to the .64 vs the .78 to get better economy without...
Scott which axle assemblies have the higher gears and how can one tell? I am looking at the m1079's for a camper conversion and I would like better fuel economy but wonder if the motor will have adequate power for hills when loaded.
Thanks

Enjoy it! if you get up to northern idaho to try it out maybe we can hook up.
I talked to chris at vermont unimog and he said he had brought in 4 of the steyr 12m18 one went to Canada don't remember where he said the others went.
Oh well I think I can get there with the 1078 it will just be...
That thing is gorgeous! Congratulations. Would really be a blast checking out its capabilities.
If you happen to be in the right place at the right time and hear of a steyr 12m18 they looked at once then forgot about and you don't buy it for yourself please let me know.
I certainly agree on looking one over will have to do that soon. Does anyone know anyone in the guard in spokane Washington? Or coure d Alene ID? I will make a road trip but I don't know if you don't know someone if you can just walk in and say hey can I really look one of your trucks over with...
This website has great pics of the lmtv

this pic I think shows the hoses going to the ram in the bottom left

i think after looking at these maybe remove tire carrier and rack and come up with a...
Hmmmm that makes it more difficult would be nice to see how steyr did it. My first thought is to do large air shocks like giant lift gate ones coupled with something heavy I know you said the tire would be too heavy. But that is my first thought. Another I had was add a front winch and build a...
Well after all it sounds like it might be doable if I can come up with a way to remove all that and still be able to raise the cab without blowing out my back.
I wasn't aware that they went to such great lengths to make it not a steyr. But now that I am It is what it is.
With the prices...
Does the hydraulic air motor pump create the air pressure for the brakes or is it a stand alone system for the tire and cab lift?
i guess It would have been too tough to just put in an auto tranny and leave the rest a steyr. Or at least a lot more than 4 parts.
Thank you again for your time...
Thank you very much for letting me look at your pictures. And taking the time to answer my questions. Your 1094 sure makes your Haflinger look small. You went through a ton of work to make it look as nice as it does now! After looking at your pics of course it now leaves me with new...
