2deuce, did you ever figure out your problem? I'm having a real similar issue with my M1008 and I've read all of the post and threads and now stuck. I've replaced in this order: Glow Plugs, Fuel Filter Housing and Filter, Fuel Pump (same mechanical), rubber lines, after all of those it ran OK...
