    I'm planning on adding an under-the-hood arc welder, which uses a special alternator; I'll use this for a secondary 12V electrical system which will be used to run accessories, power an inverter and I hear 12V bulbs are an order of magnitude cheaper than the 24V ones so I'll switch the lighting...

    Electric winch

    The problem w/ electric winches is, when you use them near their rated capacity, they overheat very easily. Some electric winches have thermal cutoffs that'll try and disable the winches before you burn them up, but even then they'll only pull 2 feet or so before they overheat and you have to...

    Wheel maintenance

    Try using "belt tightener" spray. It's a water-based lubricant that's absorbed into the material and should soften it up without causing problems.

    I was planning to relocate my stack to behind the cab, along with the spare and a couple of toolboxes. I was also planning on adding a diesel muffler to the exhaust.

    Sounds like a bad connection to the battery. Check your connections, and you might need to replace wires.

    rmgill: Your concept is almost exactly what I had planned, except for toolboxes and a (super-single) spare mounted behind the cab making for an even shorter bed. With luck I'll have enough room for a 10' bed. Good luck with your mod!
